I want to raise meat birds, hopefully the Freedom Rangers; but I can't come to doing the deed myself. If there is any one in the Central Texas area that will process my birds for me that will be great. I can pay per bird or split the meat. I can package the meat with a food saver but just do not have the equipment needed to properly slaughter and pluck. Can respond to this post or email me at [email protected]

Thanks,

Its not that bad, we are culling some of our young roosters today. If you have someone to make the first bleeding cut its not that bad. One down too many to go.

I can't believe that there isn't anyone in the entire state of Texas that can not help me find someone to processor meat birds. I know the Austin area is big on chickens. Even someone to show me what to do will be a start.

Thanks,
Lanora

Someone posted on Craiglist out of Bailey, Texas that they would teach you how to dress a chicken. Bailey I believe is just north of Dallas. The telephone listed is 214-681-1306. He advertised May 1st.

I've considered giving him a call myself just to learn how with hands on experience. But driving from the Austin area is a bit of a drive. I've got 4 Roosters to process and I've got to find someone also.

Good Luck

Ron

Fran's Fryers near Fort Worth processes meat birds, contact them for details, and don't be surprise if they are booked. There are 3 places I found that processed birds in TX, all are too far from me, more than 2 hrs drive for the closest. Anyway, there is one in Houston, Ft Worth and NE Tx, a farm but I can't remember the name- I googled poultry processing in TX to find the info.

Even though Frans Fryers is "close", I was looking for someone to process excess roosters, and Frans does meat birds.

If you are still looking you might try contacting Alexander Family farm (in Del Valle). They have a big set up for butchering and they butcher chickens that they raise and sell eggs. I don't know if they butcher other peoples chickens but they may be able to show you how. There # is(512)247-4455. I hope this helps.

I've got 2 roosters that need to be processed. Eden's Cove is 3 hours away, and if Fran's Fryers won't do roosters I'm out of options (plus I'm not completely sure I can do it myself). Does anyone have any other suggestions? I see that this thread is 2 years old, so i thought some new ones might be out there.

UPDATE: My roosters were adopted, but I was within a week of taking them down to Eden's Cove so they could help me process them. While they're not exactly in the DFW area, they were the closest place I could find. Fran's Fryers did respond to my inquiry, but they do not do private processing. Hopefully I won't be in this situation again because my neighbors had already been calling animal control about the noise. I'm perfectly happy with my 2 hens at the moment, but if I do add more it will be in the Spring and from a hatchery.
