I have baby chicks that integrated themselves into my adult flock this week. The mama broody that hatched them was killed by a predator. After she was gone the chicks started to go into the run with the flock on their own. They can fit through the fence so they have the run of the whole place. None of the hens even tried one little peck or chase or anything at all. I was so surprised because I have had trouble integrating with my adult hens in the past. It really was so nice to see especially after having such a sad loss of the broody mama. The chicks did gravitate to my silkies and I think the silkies (two hens and a roo) are looking after them like a little family.
