Hiya. So I have a rooster and a hen. I thought I was getting two hens, but ended up with a rooster. I have two more young girls that I want to put out in the coop, but they are still a little young to go out there. It will be at least a week before they are old enough.
The rooster is now crowing in the early morning and driving everyone crazy. We want to get rid of him asap--but that would mean the other hen would be alone in the coop until the chicks are old enough to go out with her. I heard that chickens don't do well by themselves, but it would only be for about a week or two. How do they do alone? She is a very docile, almost reptilian bird, very dependent on the rooster.
I really appreciate any info you can give me.
