GL Wyandottes went out to the coop yesterday

After about 5 and 1/2 weeks, our small flock (17) of Golden Laced Wyandottes went out to the coop to live yesterday.  They're very happy to be in bigger environs, including the large chicken run.  They've had a ball scratching up worms and running around the run.  Built the coop last year from the remains of an old treehouse, with a little bit of new plywood added for the walls.  You can see that it has an external nesting box, which truly maximizes the modest floor space.

The chicks came from Mt Healthy Hatcheries in Cincinnati--excellent mail order hatchery.  15 is the minimum order (rather than the customary 25).  We ordered 15 and they stuck in 2 more for whatever reason (warmth?).  All were healthy on arrival and all have survived so far.

Out of the 17, 10 are cockerels and 7 are pullets.  We'll butcher all the cockerels save one.  Our coop size will allow for 8.

What pretty birds!  Here's a question for you.  I got 4 new babies today.  We know what 2 are but unsure about the other two.  They are about 3 weeks old, looking at this pic, does this look like a GL Wyandotte to you?http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w78/damefugl/100_1715.jpgThanks! Sherry

Could be.  This is what ours looked like at 3 weeks:

Thank you so much.  Your pic is much cleared than mine.  I do believe that's what I have.  I hope so.  They are gorgeous!  Thanks again.

Sherry-
I am not sure, but she looks very much like one of my Easter Eggers!  SO could be that?

I just don't really know.  He/She looks alot like Jim's 3 week old GLW.  I don't know what the brown and white one is either.  I guess I'll really find out when they get bigger.

I second Jimagination, Sherry. That looks like an Ameraucana (easter egger) to me -there's white on the tips of the wings, whereas GL Wyandottes are edged in solid black with gold in the middle. Ameraucana are still nice birds though! big_smile

And Jim, that's a nice little coop and a lovely young flock -best of luck! big_smile

I'll be happy with that too.  I have one araucana pullet in the bunch.
Thanks for the help.
