Cherwill
I do believe you are right...he must have been testing you...I will be sure to keep a close eye on roo behaviors. Thanks for your help
I hope I can keep 3 of them but will not tolerate a mean roo. My youngest (twins) are 12 but still...any company getting attacked would really bother me!I just don't want the hassle...plus I want to hatch some of my own...so I don't want any "mean genes"
I'm glad you were able to rehome him. Maybe try again with a different breed?

He's been held plenty and we feed him and the hens from our hands at least once a day. No problem. This morning when I got in the coop to refill the water, they all just watched me and everyone was calm. Then when I was sprinkling some scratch out in the pen, Pip came at me and bit me. I can see 4 bruises where he got me with his beak; he has no spurs yet. When my husband came home, the same thing happened but he managed to pick Pip up and hold him until he'd calmed down. This afternoon when we brought out some kitchen scraps and BOSS, he was fine, though not as friendly as usual. We love that stupid bird! Why would he suddenly be attacking us? He is rather ... energetic ... in the mornings and none of the hens are interested yet. Has anyone had a roo that attacked like that and ended up being friendly again, or is this just how he's going to be now that he's older? This is our first flock and up until now, they've all seemed happy and Pip was the friendliest of them all.
