I have a few that just hatched and I'm looking for pullets. Any ideas?

wait a while, if one lays an egg... its a hen  smile

We have 8 chickens... Recalculating, recalculating... We have 11 chickens... recalculating, recalculating... We have 15 chickens, and 2 ducks.
Recalculating again adding 7 peepers.... it's amazing how fast 8 chickens turns into 22...

Oh boy! Here they come with the "sure-fire" ways to sex your babies! I like the one the most that said to put a remote control and a cell phone in with the babies. hu Girls will go for the phone..... you get the rest! lau On a more serious note, not sure how soon you need to determine the sex, but between 3-4 weeks (I have 12 buff orpingtons - 11 pullets, 1 rooster), my rooster's comb definitely started getting a darker red and split. That's when we decided to rename "Missy" to "Ernie"! lol It was a good call. yippiechickie Ernie is now 8 weeks old and definitely my only buff rooster. I don't know any way to sex the chicks earlier - I'm too much of a newbie myself! Good luck and enjoy your babies!

10 Buff Orpingtons, 10 White Plymouth Rocks! to start! LOVE my girls! and now 2 Barred Rocks, and 2 Americanas, and 2 ???   26 in all

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll post pictures in a day or two so that I can get all of your opinions.

Buff Orpingtons are easy to sex at a day to three days old. I have used feather sexing on mine and had a 95% accuracy rate for the last 2 years. Watch this video  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zbkkkn_PxE  They show very clear pics of the feathers to look at.

Living in North Pole, Alaska with 1 great husband, 4 good kids, 11 horses, 3 dogs, 2 cats, 2 Green Winged Macaws, 1 cory, 1 glass eel, and about 40 Buff Orpingtons and hatching lots more and 16 D'Uccles. Recently added 70 more chickens. Now there are three Coops to clean!

The video is very helpful in sexing chicks-explains alot.  UTube always surprises me.  I bookmarked the site-also ones on butchering for later.  Thanks for the reference.  goodpost.gif

Thanks for the link!  I'm going to get a couple Buff chicks next week, and can't have any roosters.  goodpost.gif

Whoever said don't count your chickens before they're hatched clearly never tried to count chickens after they're hatched.

the video was very cruel. Don't watch it if you are an animal lover. I could not watch to the end
