Hen bird, all fluff and no saddle feathers, and I agree with the rounded feather observation.

Looks like a hen to me, too. And, i have several hens who make noise all day long. My bantam salmon faverolles will just stand there and scream, for no apparent reason. One has started making noise like she's trying to crow. i don't know what to tell you. Try showing your house for sale with a hen yodeling her lungs out in the backyard. That's fun.
Hen, about one day from starting to lay. Watch the noisy celebration then.
