Egyptian Geese

I have a pair, but they are not laying yet. I have herd they can be mean, but mine seem bossy, but no more than normal for a goose. They have been around my chickens etc.. w/o problems. I think when they are at their most aggressive is when they have a nest, like most geese. They are out now with the swans and are happy grazing grass.....

I have herd also they are mean. I ahve a pair but mine are just mean to my ducks. I have had them kill one or two younger ducks. so they are in their own pen now. they will chase anything even ifs its bigger them them. My mom said she went out and feed them and (Crash)my Male jumped up on her. But I'm not so sure. never happen to me yet. I do know that once they settle in a pen they like they will be persistent about getting back to that pen. Everytime I open the gate Crash makes a run for it to get back in with the ducks.

ok, I read the Storey's Illustrated Guide to Poultry Breeds and it says...the Egyptian goose is " the most aggressive and bad tempered of all breeds during the breeding season..and it places like Oregon and a few other states is is illegal to own them do their invasive and aggressive nature.."..Wow...that does not sound like a breed I want.  I entertain a lot....well maybe I do..LOL....so that's that.  I am sure ALL OF THEM ARE NOT AS BAD THOUGH.

"Geese in General:  Choose the breed you're most attracted to.  After raising all breeds over the course of 47 years, we've found that in most cases personality and temperament depend more on the individual bird and its environment than on the breed.  To reduce the likelihood of aggressive behavior at maturity, we've found it helpful to work calmly around geese of all ages, to never tease them, and to not feed them from the hand."

They don't have Egyptians on their breeds list, but of course they might have had them sometime during those 47 years.

So far mine have been just like my other geese...but better, less messy, a heck of a lot quieter.... perhaps a little more bossy, but they have been fine with the chickens and such except for the occasional running with the wings up, LOL. They are now out with the swans, and they follow me around at a distance seeing what I'm up too. It's not breeding season yet.... so we shall see.

they are so cool looking, I plan on getting some when I get the right type of enclosure for them, I'd rather not get them, have problems, and then have to "rig" a pen for them.  Better to be prepared beforehand!

Chickenzoo your egyptions are quiet ?? When I worked at the zoo the ones I had there were extremely loud . Especialy if the female was on eggs . The male roils lower his head then pick it up all the wile making the loudest noise I ever heard from a goose .

Even when the hen wasn't on eggs they would talk back and forth and they were real loud . Wander if it's how there raised

I had mine for a SHORT time. They killed 2 female cayugas and had my Nenes in the corner working on killing them but it was nesting season.. Mine were very loud louder than my Lavander Ice Americans have EVER been the female almost sounds like a duck quacking really fast but constatly.. Mine did it all the time.. I kinda liked the sound but didnt like the killing thing.. I am gonna seperate my pens into 2 and get a pair back I gave them away and they hatched 8 Babies at his place!

I agree with the quote, it depends on the pair. I have 12 pairs of breeder egyptians (and lots of babies for sale); some pairs are aggressive towards ducks or geese and other pairs are perfectly fine with anything. But all are excellent parents and defend the nest or babies with their life.
