I have both types of pens. My cochins and other fuzzy feeted birds are on the ground mostly because they like to dig and dust bath more than my OEGB's.
My game bantams are off the ground and they do just fine. My OEGB has never gone broody but I have silkies...so I have all the broodiness one needs...lol.

My pens for the OEGB trios are 4x4x4 and they have plenty of room.

Good luck and welcome to BYC!
