Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Thanks. Ok, I'll wait. How long should I wait? 2 days? 1 week? I put a gold ball under her instead. So far, even though it's early, I do think she is broody. This is different from her normal laying behavior. She also sits on her nest for 2-3 hours after laying an egg. She has never slept in a nest. I just let my chickens out and she did not budge.
Make sure she is eating and drinking. Try picking her up and taking her out of the nest. Put her by the food and see if she returns to the nest shortly. You want to make sure she is not losing weight. She could be hiding in the nest from an overly attentive cockerel and not really broody. If the cockerel comes after her when you put her by the food, he could be harassing her to the point she wants to hide. The ages are right for that.

She continued to sit on the nest all morning, so I decided to set up a separate pen in the coop, with food and water close by. When I moved her into the pen, I noticed that she had stolen an egg laid by my Lavender Ameraucana this morning and was sitting on it with the golf ball I have her last night. shortly after I put her in the brood pen, she left to go socialize with her flock mates. At first, I thought she wasn't committed after all, however, about 5 to 10 minutes later, she got all puffy as she headed towards the coop. I reintroduced her to the nest in the broody pen. Once she saw the clutch of 5 eggs I set out for her, she immediately climbed in and tucked them under her. Then she screamed at me to get out. :p

Thanks for all the advice. I don't know what will happen, but look forward to the experience, regardless of the results. I'll keep y'all posted.

Sometimes, if you know for sure she is broody, moving her at night helps. She may not want to leave her original nest, but if you move her at night, she'll just wake up in her new spot and feel that that is now her nest. I have a broody right now that refuses to sit anywhere bit in the main barn stall, we've moved her twice and she just goes right back to the nest box she started on, without her eggs. We finally gave up, then I read to do it at night. We're going to attempt to move her again before hatch day.

2 of them are brown, the other 2 are black/white. One has an obvious crest.
Excuse the BR chicks

Anyone have an opinion on if these are pullets or roos? They are supposed to be SFH but I have been hoodwinked before! They will be 5 weeks old on Saturday.

#1 White/Brown - acts like a roo always strutting around and wanting to chest bump all the others.

#2 Black - pic below shows #2 facing the camera and next to it is #3s backside.

#3 Brown

They are very pretty! They appear to be SFH, but time will tell how they flower out. I am guessing #1 is a cockerel and #2 & #3 are pullets. However, the crested cockerels can be sneaky and not show themselves until 9 or 10 weeks, so....
