That's very interesting. I've looked through lots of pictures of SFH chicks and haven't seen one like this. It's going to be fun watching this one grow out!

I've looked through tons of pics too.  Not only have I not seen any SFH chicks that look like this, I haven't seen any chicks that look like this.  I can't wait to see Bear all grown up.

Are his legs green? Its sort of looks like it in the picture. Really interesting markings though!

Legs are very dark. They look brown.  Will that be green as he gets older?  Is that good or bad?

I now have 4 SFH pips!

I think the legs are meant to be yellow.

Hello, Are these the eggs I sent you?  How exciting!  I know you have had a rough few weeks with the fires, you need a good hatch!

As far as the dark legs, I know most SFH's do have yellow legs, but there is no "standard" since they are a landrace breed, just what is normal.  I think there are a few other that have had darker legs, but you just have to wonder if they "pure." There are all kinds of genes that could pop up with this breed though.

I have a chick with a similar color pattern but not the same.  I will get a picture of it for you to see.

Genelda- I am a portrait photographer and a stay at home mother of two. I enjoying living in the Smokey Mtn. of TN with my chickens!

One just popped out, 3 more pipped, 5 still rock'n.

I was wondering if that one was pure. Dang, Is there anyway to tell?

Yes, these are the eggs you sent!  The one that just hatched is, dark with a light face.  Has a mask.  I can't wait till she's all poofed out!

it needs to be done as early as possible or the feathers will be the same on both sexes.
