Will chickens over eat? - Page 2

Mine would waste a lot before I made the bucket feeder from the learning center page - http://www.backyardchickens.com/LC-waterer.html
Now the tray is deep enough so that they cannot peck or scratch out most of the food. This has cut down drastically on the feed waste, especially since mine are still too little for the pellets.

1.25 acres filled with 1 wonderful hubby, 3 great stepsons, 2 Rottweilers, 3 horses, and a bunch of chickens!

Thanks to everyone for your input.  We have Red and Black Stars.  We are feeding layer pellets and yes they seem to waste less when we feed the pellets instead of crumbles.  I agree with woodmort that there are times when the feed gets low and may be that is why they consume more when we give them feed.  We are going to add a second feeder to make sure there is ample supply when we are not on the property to feed twice a day.
