How on earth do they manage with that all inside for days or months. My lady is now laying again which is good she seems okay apart from her feathers seem a bit scraggy and she sometimes stands with her wings lifted up.
I had 24 ladies but found I did not have enough time so I let them go to good homes and just kept the 5 odd balls incase they got the chop. I know Soft as marshmallow me

I have this one chicken which is really weird I call her Milly, she does not lay, has feathers missing as she cannot prean with her beak, waddles like a duck, large crest, crossed beak and sometimes cocker-doodle-doo but she was supposed to be a hen. I love her though she come when called and make some funny sweet noises.

You have lucky ladies and they are lucky that you kept them:)) I do not know how the chickens function with crude in their abdomen like that. The said thing is that I think my girl is laying internally again. So I will have to take to have the surgery again and then this time I want them to perform a hysterectomy so she doesn't have to lay anymore. I don't want her for the eggs (although it would be nice) but they have a forever home here until they go to chickie heaven.

At least this time it shouldn't be a 2 lb mass inside her or hope not anyway.

I am glad your girl is laying again. You were lucky that she passed that mess through. You should name her Lucky

Yea she is a real trooper though. I had her seperated for awhile and gave her antibiotics so I guess that is why she never got infected. Poor thing and to think I have to have it done again on her but she will have a hysterectomy this time so she won't lay any eggs ever.

Hi,

My chicken has not been laying for a few days and I noticed the other chickens where after her bum they pecked her and made her bleed.  So I grabbed her and put her by herself to rest.  I thought she was egg bound which I can usually sort out but having gone to her nest box today there was this huge lump laying there which is solid flesh with like a yellow tube attached to it which looks like she has cut it off.  Needless to say I thought this was gross and nearly threw up.  I have taken a picture of it from both sides but not sure how to upload it.  I am guessing this is a growth of some kind??   She seems okay she is eating and drinking and walking around as normal.

Any advice would be great.

I am thinking if it is a growth it will probably come back?

Hi, im new to this but my hen also layed a yellow lump last week!! Also had a vessel like tube off it! Was very gross

Did u find out what it was?? I did have a pic but must have deleted it. Looked like my hen (red eye) layed this around 11:30pm (aus time) and now just tonight she layed a soft shelled egg...she's now back on her perch happy and sleeping but looked freaky!!

That is is now I am putting it in the bin for good, bye bye grossness.
Does this look like an ovary to you? I would say no????
This a lash egg. I'm trying to figure out what's going on with my chicken too and came across this.

Oh another strange thing happened the other day my chickens got hold of a live mouse they found and ripped it to shreds, was not happy with my girls, I was in shock:eek:
Chickens aren't vegetarians. :) They'll eat frogs, snakes, lizards, mice, insects... whatever they can get, really. They like meat. It's a normal thing for them.
