Frontline Plus for dogs & cats - are they the same formula?

To say I'm ticked is an overstatement.

I won an eBay auction for Frontline Plus for cats (it's been a long battle with fleas this year - never had them before, and have worked REALLY hard to get rid of them without using something this strong, but I'm at my wits' end).  It was for an 8 week supply.

I received 2 XL doses of Frontline Plus for DOGS, a small syringe, and a glass vial to put the extra formula in since the dose for dogs is so much larger than the dose for cats.  I've contacted the manufacturer but have not heard back yet.

Does anyone know - for certain - if they are the same formula?  There were instuctions with it indicated to use 0.5ml for the dose.  I really would like to hear from a vet or a vet tech...I sure as heck don't want to make my critters sick!  THANKS!!!

Call and ask a vets office...
I DO know that advantix for dogs and cats are different things... and if a cat gets into it..it can kill them..
Not sure about frontline though... Its the PLUS that would worry me with the cats.

I am a licensed vet tech. That is off label use but it is perfectly fine. go by the directions they gave you. Plenty of people do it and save money that way. By the way, when Frontline was in trials, animals were given nearly 100 times the dosage orally with no side effects so you are safe.

I've been doing this for years and my cats are fine. I can't guarantee you got the right stuff, but I use the large dog split down with a syringe on my outdoor cats.

I'm a vet tech, and also work for a rescue. What you have is a very good deal!

Frontline Plus for Dogs and Frontline Plus for Cats is the exact same stuff. So you save yourself a BOATLOAD of money by buying the big one and breaking it down into smaller doses. Dose as follows;

Cats; .5 ml

Dogs;
>22 lbs .67 ml
23-44 lbs  1.34 ml
45-88 lbs 2.68 ml
89-132 lbs 4.02 ml

You can go to any vet and ask for a 1/2 cc syringe (or a few) and they will give them to you or sell them to you for close to nothing.

We do this on all our practice animals, rescue animals, and I do it at home as well.

*Just note that this DOES NOT I repeat DOES NOT work with Advantage Multi OR Advantix!

Frontline and Frontline Plus are both safe. I don't even know if you can get Frontline without if being the Plus. There is NO Advantix for cats. That's why it is called K9 Advantix. They are all different. YOu did the right thing by wanting to control fleas. I would also deworm them for tapeworms as they likely have them if they have had fleas.

I'm 100% certain that what I have is the large dost of Frontline Plus for dogs - because I have that at my house already.  The greenish plastic vials are exactly the same, and the back of both says Frontline Plus.

Thanks so much, guys.  I honestly didn't want to wait another day, but if I didn't feel comfortable, of course I would have!!

The seller never indicated on eBay that I'd be getting 2 large dog size pippetes (or whatever you call them) along with a syringe and a glass vial.  Wish she would have, to me, that's kind of like false advertising.  Sigh.

vetgirl - what product do you recommend for tapeworm deworming?  (all of my dogs/cats have fleas).  I've tried Frontline Spray for the dogs and a spray-on for the cats, we've bathed them weekly with flea shampoo, vacuumed EVERYTHING, sprayed with a premise spray for fleas, and re-done this weekly, and they keep coming back, so I realize it's got to be eggs that aren't getting killed hatching....gives me the creeps just typing about it!

tapeworm is usually praziquantel tablets (OTC) or a shot of drontal (praziquantel) from the vet.
