Awesome Barb!!  Glad you found some buddies for Elliot!!

Lynette ~  Hope your little guy makes it. Are you giving him some vitamins? Key West mama knows an alien when she sees one! gig.gif

ep.gif That's a big arsed bator!! You can hatch Emus! I might try to hatch a few peafowl this spring. I can get some eggs from my friend. Peafowl seem to sell much better than chickens around here for some reason?

Supposed to be in the upper 60s here today!!! celebrate.gif Days are getting much longer too. Can't wait for spring!

thanks Debbi! That's what I keep telling myself....I'm really enjoying this batch of chicks...they are so funny....minus the being hooligans at night. I can't tell you how excited I am the days are getting longer! Makes it so much easier knowing I still have some daylight when I get home from work

I feel like I got something accomplished today. I wormed all my chickens, turkeys and guineas except the chicken mommas with their babies. I probably wormed myself as well since I got splashed with the wormer in the eye GRRRRR.  Got it all washed out okay but I'm sure some probably absorbed lol.

Debbie, the little silkie baby slept all night and wrapped up in one of my fuzzy jacket. He wanted a nest or he would cry. He is a lot stronger this morning he is trying to walk a little and holding his head up good. I hope the momma didn't peck him in the head or something you know how silkies are with their head injuries. He has a vaulted skull.  I tried to give him a few drinks but he isn't drinking real good yet. I will try the vitamins next time I give him a drink. I'm not leaving water in there yet because he is not that steady and will probably drown himself lol.  Debbie I found out about a good place to get peachicks that isn't super expensive and they ship HAHAHA.  I would try eggs if I found a good source close but they would have to be shipped and I hear they have a lower hatch rate than the chicken eggs shipped. I am going to order 8 peachicks instead.

Math Ace: Oh how dare you tempt me with that cute emu picture!  They are sooo adorable as babies. I spent all last year talking myself out of getting some Emus LOL.  I even had someone offer me eggs.  I decided I would get some peafowl instead because they stay smaller. Looking forward to seeing your pics from the show :)

Math did you get any pics of Marans at the show?  I didn't get to see any up close.  It was blocked off the whole time I was there.  The list they had on the Newnan thread had lots of Marans winners, would LOVE to see them.

BTW, I was looking at my Blue Cuckoos and on the hackles the feathers are DARKER, almost black but not quite.  Definitely not the same blue as the rest of the bird's feathers.

Morning! Geesh....been trying to post since last night and for some reason I can't.....this morning it took 8 attempts to open the Marans thread before it would let me in. ArGh!

Anyway.....Vicki...I know those days all too well. Hugs to you lady! I hope you have a better day.

Debbi~ Have you filled up that new sandisk yet??? big_smile.png

Donna~ That's alots of eggs in that gigantor bator! Good luck!

My hatch is over, 9 hatched and I have 2 Splash, 4 Blue, 3 Black and all three black ones came out with short down. I must have bumped my temp. knob on the side when I was adjusting the turner and for the life of me since lockdown I haven't been able to get the temp under 100.4. This morning it is finally normal, but I can tell you that the higher temps put a jump start on the eggs that are due to go into lockdown this coming Sunday. Each egg is so full inside I can't even see wiggles.

Is this what your little one looked like?

Mathace,

I was at newnan also, did you see the guy there that had the display of eggs he'd hatched, with the unhatched ones sitting below?   wondering who he was

I saw him too... he was telling me that it was BLOOD that made the eggs so dark.... that was a first, but I have never researched why they are so dark.
