Pink, a couple of VERY knowledgeable and experienced breeders commented on the purple/green sheen thing over on the Ameraucana thread, yesterday, I believe, so you won't have to scroll back far. You might want to check it out.

I've also had 2 sticky hatches this year. Results much like you describe. Silkies and Ameraucanas. Very frustrating. I've got a broody sitting right now - (Blue Copper Marans sitting on Blue and Black Copper eggs). I'm curious to see how those hatch - in all this crazy heat. I figure they'll incubate in about 14 days  - assuming they haven't fried. It's GOT to be 110 degrees under my poor girl.

Birchen eggs are doing good, or were when I put the current hatch into lockdown. I candled several and could see good veining. I will re-candle when I remove this hatch and clean, also it is time to move them down to the next tray so it all works out great. I was super excited to see veining at about 5-6 days and especially in the few that I picked up. Usually with shipped eggs I don't expect to see much of anything let alone 7 or more good ones in a row. Keeping my fingers crossed for our Birchens.

 

Tail is not droopy, she is still carrying it pretty much normal. I just want to get the nursery area done for her so that if I have to be gone for any reason I can leave and know that she is atleast in an area where the others won't bother her.

awesome on the birchen eggs! I'm really hoping the ones here will do alright. They seem to bounce back better when its earlier in the development.... I'm finger crossing for both of us too!

Just from what you said and showed me, I'd guess you are within about a 1 to 3 week range for kidding, so its good to have a place ready for her for sure. I don't know about there, but storms are usually the trigger here for kidding

Vicki~ Can't wait to hear your candling results for the Birchens. Everytime I look at those eggs I am still amazed at their beautiful color.

Thank you for all your help with the goatie....I am excited but as you know I wish I had known previously that this was coming. I'm sure you will still be hearing alot from with about this. I'm only a second time expectant goatie mamma and both times were total surprises.

No problem Kim....that's what friends are for. I better head out and get chores done...I hear the birdies and goaties calling me!

I don't know if this will work for chickens, but I'm sure they won't mind if you try it!  Whenever I get overheated and dehydrated and headach-y, I eat some watermelon. Not only is it full of water, which I'm sure helps some, but I think it must have certain minerals or something in it that our bodies are craving at that time. It ALWAYS makes my headache go away, even if drinking tons of water has done nothing for it. We had the high temps and humidity (heat index 102) for the last several days but fortunately we had strong breezes along with it to help keep the birds cooled.
