Thank You all very much for the nice compliments. I do adore the blue birds. The blues have been an unbelievably fun project.

Hi Katherine!

Hatcheries have had Cuckoo's for some time but they have just recently acquired Black Coppers. I myself would be very leery of purchasing this breed of birds from a larger hatchery. MY OPINION HERE........I don't feel that larger commercial hatcheries may have the man power, dedication or time to devote to these birds and a pretty strict breeding program. So my opinion is that a person may get a lesser than quality bird and that some of the traits and characteristics that make this breed of bird special may could be lost in that shuffle. Anyway just MHO.

I have the same opinion as Pink on hatcheries starting to sell Black Coppers. As with most breeds you'll get better quality birds from a reputable breeder, the hatcheries seem to be more quantity over quality with their chickens.

Ms. Bev, Would you care to comment on the Hackle feathers on some of the BC males that have been showed here on the forum lately have have the copper blended the the golden. according to the proposed standard submitted to APA it states "Deep Copper Coler"(mid-coppery to red-coppery, but not golden or straw colored.

Please people I am not interested in what the other Standards say as we will be showing in APA sanctioned shows and the APA standard is the only one that will matter in APA shows.

Bec, if you do not care to comment maybe you could get Tim to comment. Thanks

I am visiting a friend over the weekend that has BCM. He show me these 4 week olds, wade Jeane birds he got from a well known breeder, that gets top dollar for her eggs and chicks. To put it nicely he was a little dissapointed with what he ended up with. He would like to know what you guys think. No need to be nice!!!

Hummmm looks like some I hatched mossy, yellow legs and great disappointment on my part. I realize the hatch 10 get 1 good one rule but I have plenty of fryers and they do dress out well and I didn't get one good enough to keep either
