Best Breeds to Sell???

You can only wing sex on a chick that has a slow feathering and fast feathering parent or something like that. The dangling method doesnt work either sadly. Its 50 % right

If it would work, why dont hatcheries do that?

One method I have started using is the dangleing a ring on a string. I know most are going to say hogwash, but I have been getting better than adverage results. Just take your wedding band and tie it to a string, hang it above the chick in question, If the ring swings back and forth, its a roo, swings in circles, its a pullet. We did this with eggs before placing in the incubator, we hatched 15 of 18 eggs and had 14 of 15 chicks turned out be pullets. My uncle claims he can tell the age of a man or woman using this method as well. One year for every circle or swing the ring makes.

Vent sexing is as much an art as it is science. There is a book available that goes into detail, including drawings, that shows you the method to use and what to look for to determine the sex of the bird. It does take practice, and with my old eyes, a magniflying glass.

Heres the book http://www.cutlersupply.com/cart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_17&products_id=65

I would like to start selling eggs and/or hatchlings this spring here in Iowa but am unsure of how to go about it also. I'm thinking of just posting on Facebook to start. Any ideas or suggestions?

Check your state regulations for selling eggs. Here in WA state if you have under 3,000 birds and you sale your eggs from your property (i.e. they come to you) you don't need any license but I don't know about other states.

Most people use craigslist.

Get BR and RIR THAT way you can sell both those breeds abd black sex links..I sell my hens for 20 a piece and roosters for ten here in Texas...but also silkies abd black copper marans are real popular

I like Black Australops the are good layers and good meat chickens here in Texas they sell good at the auction $30 pair and about $5 per chick
