Kathy, I'm so, so sorry! I know that she was one you really were attached to. Gosh, I loved her spunk, too! My condolences, my friend. You know I understand.

I am not one to get toooo attached to my chickens, generally. This has taken me by surprise. I really never thought I would be so emotional over such a thing. Silly, but here I sit, a blubbering idiot!

I have had a few "special," chickens. Still, though, chickens......  ha, right? ! !

I was able to let Leggs go to a new home this past week. He has always been special, and went to a special, most wonderful, home.

Floozy, awwwww, my dear Floozy.........   what can I say????  I am sure gonna miss her........

It has just been a crappy chicken day for me today. I sold 2 pens full of roosters...... like 40 roosters. Some were hard to part with, simply because they were F2 projects and it was probably too early to cull them. YET, I needed to downsize. I know that. Others were actually some nice breeder quality birds. I just didn't need to hang on to more than I already have.

Anyway, all that said, I became a bit unnerved while watching the guy load up all the birds. I am sure it is totally acceptable, really. It just bothered me, that he wasn't very "gentle."  It doesn't bother me at all that they will become dinner. That is fine with me.

I guess I am just a little sensitive today. Tyler must have noticed. He is just a sweetie. "It's all okay, Mom. You are doing the right thing. We now have 2 more pens open for the projects. Awwww, Mom, it'll be alright."

It'll be better, later.......

Kathy you have had a rough day for sure I am so sorry.  We all knew you loved that Floozy...despite your rough realistic breeder exterior, we all knew the heart was involved there for her...she was a special girl and will be missed.  hugs.gif

Oh, Kathy, I'm crying right along with you. It's been a rough couple of weeks, losing Zane, and now knowing we've all lost that sweet character, Floozy. We get it completely, you know we do. Some of them are just so special. She was definitely one of those.

As you all know, the only reason I ever even became interested in chickens, beyond getting some eggs, is because I fell in love with the Delaware breed.

They will always be my first love. The only reason I even got the Barred Rocks and New Hampshires (that I love), was to work this project. I so want to have a beautiful strain of Delawares.

Alot has happened since my first purchase of some chicks at the Farm Store. I have learned so much. I have researched alot and kept my mind occupied with thoughts and more questions. I find myself a bit obsessive with it, all too often. I just love it that much...........

Floozy though...... ohhhh, she was something! Really, she was. She was a good Delaware.

I'm setting a big batch of eggs tonight, with every Delaware egg I have here. This will be the last batch of Delawares I will hatch. I am moving on............   The projects will be the Delawares I work on from this set forward.

I'm just sad.

Thank you all. I know you all do understand.

So sorry.  Those birds just grow on you.

I only have two old Delaware hens left, and they are favorites.  But they are no where near as memorable as Floozy.
