Oh Cynthia thank you...it is absolutely beautiful.  I know he will treasure it as will his parents.  Thank you so much.

I think my hatch is finally over....30/34 hatched   The Legion O' Junebug has increased and Delaweggers are running amuck in the brooder bringing chaos and havoc in their wake!  I am lovin this little Orp baby and thinking it may have to live here and join the Menagerie'....I have nicknamed it penguin chick due to the markings

xoxo, I think they are fairly common. I got my first two from the farm store a couple of years ago. DH liked them so much we had to find a rooster and a couple more girls last year. The chick is my first offspring from them. Cyn, the quilt looks wonderful.

Our sweet, beautiful Miranda just passed away in Tom's arms. We had put her in the sunny garden with a bowl of water and Tom hadn't stood up from his squat, when she walked over between his knees, sat down and stretched her neck over his leg. She seemed to be either telling him she just couldn't do it or that she wanted to be held, or maybe both. At first he sat on the ground with her in his lap, but I ran to get him a towel and he sat on a lawn chair in the dappled shade with her in his lap for almost an hour. Her breathing sounded like pneumonia was starting to set in and her comb was dark-we knew if she didn't pass on we'd have to help her today, this couldn't go on. I went around the side of the coop to check on another bird and he called out, "She's going." He said she gasped for air, looked up at him one last time and seized, then was gone. She was just a great hen, best of the best.

So sorry that Miranda is gone. I know she will leave a hole in your heart as well as ours. Some animals, be it dog,cat or chicken are just so special.that they touch everyone. I have been reading about her illness and feeling so sad for you and Tom.

Thanks so much, rrrmamma.

We moved all the chicks in together so they go from 2 1/2 weeks up to 5 1/2 weeks. At least it will be easier to clean up with one big group rather than a brooder, plus a grow out coop, plus Penny with her three babies.

LH, one of the black Coch'anvers may be a male. It doesn't appear to have red in the comb, but it is feathering much slower than the other one and is larger and rounder. Aimee's little blonde one looks girly.
