Cyn , your grand delly kids love to free range too.  They were in the garden watching us plant   the veggie garden .

 Kathy , did not know emus love to play in the water.

LOL Karen..no I am not blaming Cyn and Tom at all, okay well Tom I am for Junebug.  They just start the process and I complete it here.  But Junebug is unique indeed as is Zena.  LOL  I am sorry about Clarence, really I am.  My boys are so special to me and it would break my heart to lose them slowly.

Karen, have you tried giving Beezus a soak in a nice warm tub of water? I've heard that sometimes that helps if she is either egg bound or perhaps has a buildup of fluids. The warm water helps their abdominal muscles to relax and thereby release whatever is clogging up in there. The water should be at least as warm as that of a bath for a human baby.

So sorry that Clarence is not improving. Sometimes, the only options we're left with is to make them as comfortable and happy as we can, and to let them know that they are loved.

Kathy, those Emu's are just the livin' end! I'm envious! I'd love to have two such entertaining and charming little goobers at our place! And I just knew y'all were gonna fall in love with them. How could one not?!?!?

Cyn, your place looks absolutely inviting! What is that beautiful bush with all of the white blooms? Wow! Pretty! It compliments Ike's plumage quite nicely!

OK, all of you with extensive broody experience, I've got a curiosity question for ya.......Does the body temperature of a genuinely broody hen run higher than that of a non-broody girl? Just wondering............

A broodies body temp actually drops about 1.5-2 degrees from 101.5 to around 99.5 on average, crazy huh you'd think just the opposite, right?

I love seeing them range all over the 2 acre portion of the property that is fenced. Isaac was made for free ranging, as most Delawares are. You can barely see my driveway gate through the trees, so they are relatively safe, but poor old Ike can't go in four directions at once, which is why I'll be keeping the Delawegger, Gideon, for his backup man, to help keep those ladies in line.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that their roos are important.  They have very unique qualities-you notice if you spend time with them.

Amy, that's a snowball bush. Has no scent, just looks pretty until a big storm or the petals fall off naturally, whichever comes first.

Karen, the abdomen is sort of between and behind the legs. Poor Olivia was like she had a kids' kickball inside of her sometimes and could barely drag herself along until we drained her again.

Had to trim both Isaac and Suede's spurs. They were so long, they were tripping over them. If it wasn't for that, I'd leave them alone entirely. They are the sweetest roosters on the planet, both were good as gold and sat in mom's lap and let me whisper sweet nothings in their ears while dad used the Dremel on them. Such good boys. I'm half a mind to keep Ike and Ellie's son in addition to Gideon. Suede is about 51/2 yrs old, but I have my doubts that Ike will live that long. Here he is:

I saw them and they are gorgeous!  I posted over there.  :)  Keep him if you want to Cyn, just not sure how Ike will tolerate him.  That is the big question.

I looked at all the Thor threads again. Gosh, he was probably the best looking splash I think I've ever seen (well, IMO, anyway). I wish I could keep a son of Suede myself, but I have such small hens in the main flock, Barbara and Tiny in particular, that they'd be squashed flat. Guess that's a moot point unless fertility is back after the butt fluff trims I did recently. Isaac is very large for some of them as it is. The Stukel Barred Rock hens and my black Rock, Emily, would have no trouble, nor would Caroline or the Delawares.

Yeah, Ike tolerating him is the question. Gideon has a pea comb so that will probably work out fine. I may keep him long enough to see if I can sneak him in there with Dottie's daughter and Gideon, but I already put an ad up in BST for him.

I know I still miss him Cyn...It will be 2 years in July and it seems like only recently.  And then to lose all but 2 of his girls a year later to the ****** heat...I am petrified of what this summer will bring.  I really cannot take it a third time.  :(

I would be very concerned about Ike and a big single combed boy...just not sure if he would try to kill him or not.  He has such as a hatred for Suede that big and single combed just would worry me.
