Brandon will be over the moon! Cool!

Oh, thought I remembered Ranger being leaner-bodied than Gideon. Ranger was June's son and Gideon is Maretta's son, both from Ike, but June is a larger hen than Maretta, though they look very similar in coloring. I noticed that Gideon is getting some red markings on him at the shoulder, wing, tail and hackles, but they are still faint and photos don't show them yet.

Gorgeous! I love the "cheeks" on Gideon.

I am downsizing. Today I am taking Soloman, my Del roo and four girls to another BYC member, I will still have Shug and two other Del girls. I have already re homed my BR boy and the two girls that aren't broody. One more trio to go, the Black Austrolorps and I will be down to one rooster and several girls but also one coop. I hate to do it but I guess I need to accept my limitations.

My real downsize will come when my big old Suede passes on. I will probably sell big Hope since she's still quite young-that is, if she's still young when Suede leaves us! He's a tough guy. I never would have figured I'd still have him at going on 6 years old! That will clear out that coop and basically, that entire building, except for maybe occasional temporary situations like broodies with babies.

I know it is hard to make decisions like that. You will enjoy them much more, with your downsize, I bet.

I know how hard it must be for you.  I go out everyday and say now which of these do I keep and which should I give away.  One will come and up and want loving then there i go.  I'm lost again.   I know that 22 will be alot for me this year.  But at the same time I want two roos and need the hens to balance it out.  I have a good coop for the fall that can handle  that many so the work will be concentrated. Also It is just about 6 yards from my back door on level land.  That is much better than the other one down about 100 steps on the land below us.    Love ya Gloria Jean

Love 1 hb,,  my children, many grands, one spoiled rotten cat,  mtns, chicks, crochet, lots of friends. My hens and a few sweet roos      NPIP 55928

Thanks y'all hugs.gif  It was a hard decision but today when I was giving over all but three of the Delawares I saw something that made me realize how needed this was. I did not even realize that one of the hens was tore up pretty badly under her wing on her back. It was healing, no blood. It looked like an older injury but honestly I never even noticed it and I do try to watch them closely. It made me feel really bad.

14th_girl-smiley-duh-gigi.gif   I thought I was losing my mind! I kept hearing cheeping. I thought it was just outside my door. (My computer is next to the door.)  I kept checking outside, and couldn't see any chicks. DUH.... It is across the room, in the incubator! I have pips! Not too many eggs in there. Just 24 .....  Blue Isbars from Mary, and a couple Cream Legbars, too. I added a few - Silver Laced Wyandottes, Orps, and a couple Delaware projects. Day 21 begins at 8AM tomorrow.
