I am so sick of broodies.   barnie.gif      Winter is coming and I just don't want to deal with chicks.  Not to mention I'm slated to go to AL end of next month and I have no one I really trust to secure things while I'm away.

DW and DD both work.   Two coops would be ok but four?  Plus chicks?

I'm not old, I'm Vintage.

Someone send a few broodies my way....none here in over 2 yrs and it sure would be nice to see a hen incubate, brood and raise her own around here

Plus, I really like watching them.....amazing to see a hen "teach" her little ones

Off to bed.....happy weekend all

Yep like most things in life huh? when you want it you can't find/or locate one, when you don't want any, your tripping and falling all over them. I'm like Mrs. Kathy I got broodies running out my ears here too, 5 set on steep now and 2 or 3 more acting as if they are getting the urge, good-grief its fall already girls, LOL

Jeff

There's a whole world of differences between propagators and breeders. My goal is to propagate breeders towards the Standard of Perfection.

You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, you can make a purse out of it, but it won't be silk. LOL

Maybe in about another 30-40 years I'll get this "being an expert" thing figured out by then. LOL

I have four Birchen Marans hens and darned if they haven't stopped being broody.  They're young hens and I think all four have gone broody.  One of them twice.  There not even a year.  It's like a competition around here with these girls!!

I wouldn't care if I had reliable help but I'm afraid DW and DD will forget to feed water and close them up and that will be the end of them all.  The plan is for me to have an open ended stay.   Do some painting and play with the grandkids.

Scott if I had a decent car I would soooooooo bring you some hens.   My mini van is just to old for the long drive.   I can send you some eggs.  Don't you have any of Kathy's BR's.  They've been giving me fits with broodiness.  Though I can't vouch for how good a mother they'd be.

Tim, my BRs came from Cyn's stock.  Pullets are still young and have yet to start laying.  Hopefully they will be my broody bunch....if not, I might have to get some of the Good Shepard line as NONE of my Columbians have ever brooded, in 3 yrs...guess they aint gonna
