I have a problem.  My husband and friend and I are going to a goat potluck this weekend (not the problem yet, but might become one eventually), but we can't stay up there for more than a few hours because we have to go home to our 6 regular chickens and 24 CHICKS IN THREE COOPS.  How did that happen.  I would say that it will get better, but for some reason I think the odds aren't good on that.  There are these little wheaten and OE  and EE (and one Welsummer) guys I recently picked up that are supposed to be emotionally distant, but are not, and they make cooing noises as they sit on my shoulder, on my hand, in my lap, and who attempt to sit on my head as I'm watching T.V.  I have been forced to start naming them, which is bad, as I'm pretty sure two are definitely going to have male names.

What do I do?

Sincerely,

Beginning-to-be-Overrun

P.S.  Abbey - do you know anyone who knows fencing?  I still might be able to work my way down to 12 if I can get a fence built at my Mom's...suggestions welcome.

x2 yuckyuck.gif  You really need to write a book.

X3... Have you read the "biggest little rooster" and "the stories of ms chickendad" on BYC here? (Great reads if you haven't I suggest you do!) You could SO do the same thing and publish some childrens books!

Tentative titles:

"Poultry:  The Road to Ruin"

"How I Found Myself Sleeping in a Coop"

"How Chickens Ruined my Marriage"

"Rocky Balboa:  Scenes Behind the Camera," aka "Dealing with the Crushing Loss of Dignity in Chicken Catching"

"Cluckopedia:  The Chicken/English Dictionary"

"Chickens in California:  Community Property Rules Make It Difficult for Him to Leave After You Buy the Sixth Breed"

"Chicken Math:  The Great Divider"

"Theological Strategies for the Deity of Your Choice," or:  "How to Pray for Pullets"

"Chicken Dust 101:  Effective Ways to Clean Your Living Room"

"Feng Shui Backyard:  Fencing that Fits"

"Knowing When to Quit:  the Feed vs. Mortgage Payment Calculation"

Okay, so maybe under 5 is my target market.  I can add pictures.

If a little bit is good, a whole lot is better.  That works with chickens, too, right?

San Diego (city) - 2 compost piles, 3 worm bins, 1 coop, 1 Australorp, 1 EE, 1 RLBW, 1 SLW, 2GLW.  Wait - now 2 coops, also 2 Production Reds, 2 more SLW, 1 Welsummer, 1 OE, 1 more EE, and 2 Wheaten Am's.  Wait - now also some RLBW in the incubator.  And 6 misc. in the brooder for Mom.  Trying for bees next,...

Thank you, Cari, for a wonderful potluck!  Where else can you get yummy food, make cheese, and learn to milk a goat all in one place?  Hubby should have brought the camera, so my family could have some amusement at my expense (me on the goat stump).  Poor goat might be giving froth for a week.  Thanks again.

I would like to point out to everyone that I did NOT bring home a duck or a rabbit (or a goat, for that matter).  Aren't you proud?

Happy week, everyone!

E

I'm impressed!

I would have liked to go and meet my fellow crazy chicken people, but my broody was hatching her eggs this weekend and naturally she needed me to obsess and monitor. pop.gif

But she hatched her 3 eggs and I successfully integrated the 3 one-week old chicks. Yay!

Cari

Thanks again for the great get together of like-minded people.  It was nice to put faces to the BYCers.  You have a great place and great animals.
