Absolutely.  Anyone that has been raising critters knows that it costs to do so.  Whether you have them as pets or not.  As the animal gets older the price also can go up due to being closer to breeding age and therefore making it more valuable.  Furthermore, you are not a hatchery and do not make your money back by breeding in volume.  You are a hobbiest and are just asking for copensation for the good care of the critter.

So you know I have the Cotton Patch goslings for sale, and I have 3 females left.  I decided to lower my price (mistake #1) because I am so busy and just want to simplify my life and keep my expenses down.  So I get an email from a woman telling me she has 2 Pilgrim goslings, but CP geese are the breed she had been looking for (later it seems to come out that she may not have had any other goslings, becuse today she informed me that she is ordering from a hatchery) and could she buy a single female. I say yes since she has a pair.  So then she wants to know can I meet her partway because she lives 2 hours or more away.  I said no. not economical.  She asks if I can meet her in Temecula if she compensates me for gas.  I really don't want to do it, but since its a pet home I say ok.  I tell her I need a deposit and I have to do it either this past weekend or next weekend.  My internet goes out because of pc problems on Friday.  I borrow an old laptop and get online and email her last night explaining that I have had pc problems. She wanted a picture, and I tell her I have no way to do it until pc is fixed. She asks if I can ship the gosling, and I say yes, but not until its 2 months old and that the price will be more for the gosling becuase its older and cost me a lot to raise it up.  Today I get an email of her saying that she doesn't understand how I can expect to raise the price for an older gosling especially since I can't sell the young ones now (not true, we all know there is a lot of demand for them around the country) and that I have bad business practices.  She adds that she is ordering from a hatchery where she can get them for $20 shipping.  Am I right to be annoyed? smack.gif

We would be interested in the Americaunas and possibly the easter eggers.  How much are you asking?

I also found out that Bird Crazy also has button quail, you can see them on their live cam. big_smile.png
Someone in the duck forum also rescued a couple of fuzzy ducklings who were also going to be dumped, too.
I hope I NEVER see another duckling dumped like this again. If I do, I will try to hold on to them a little longer to see if anyone can take them. I don't think I could ask Bird Crazy to take any more of them.

We have an unofficial duck rescue here.  Feel free to contact me if you need any takers.  My hubby is going to make the ducks their own big yard so that we don't have to lock them in their various duck houses at night.  Can't take in any adults right now but can make room for ducklings.

Glad a family got them.  If this is a common occurrence maybe you could locate a rescue of sorts where you would have a quick contact for a place to put them.  Like Duck Rescue network

I used Button quail in the bottom of my aviary's to do house keeping duties.  I raised finches and parakeets who drop seeds like crazy.  The little quails were sooo cute scurrying about and acting very much like chickens scratching on the floor looking for tid bits.  Never could get one to lay eggs in a nest though.  Id find them all over the place.  Oh and they have a cute little call too.

My Aviary's were six feet tall too and when they would get startled they would shoot straight up in the air almost six feet and never bonk their little heads.  In the pet store where I used to work our button quail would always have owies on their heads.... because the cages were only four feet.
