If anyone here ever ends up getting turkeys beware of fighting! I went out this morning and one of my turkeys heads was entirely black and blue and is now crusting up. I've been researching it all day and finally figured out it was from fighting!!! I guess it happens around 4-6 months of age, even to turkeys that grew up together! sad.png

Here is my thread:

Warning graphic pics.

I'm only posting this so that maybe in the future it will help someone.

I hope he recovers....  I only had one Tom turkey but I swear he was death on anyone who challenged him.  He skinned a young roo from the top of his head down the back.  Roo was kind of asking for it  but still...  Then he Stomped a Raven and would have dispatched it if I haddnt intervened.

deb

deb always learning

I don't have help at my place except the goats....  Well um they are just company you cant turn your back on.... more like hyper active neighbor kids coming to see what your doing..... Well they aren't much help at all.... Oh well.

I had turkeys last year and never had anything like this happen. I guess when their hormones kick in they can go kinda berserk sometimes. It's not usually this bad, but since they're in a group I guess they ganged up on him. sad.png

Thanks for the well-wishes. If he is still alive tomorrow I will get pictures and put it on my thread.

Well folks.....

The noise "police"  have had 2 complaints about noise from our property (we only have one peacock and one very feeble rooster)  and I am looking for a VERY GOOD FOREVER HOME for my peacock and his lady. These guys were kid raised and are super tame and actually belong to my daughter.

I am so so upset, but deep down I know they should be somewhere they can have more room and at the same time be safe.  If they are to eventually free range they will need to be penned in for quite some time so that they learn where is home, so do need a sizable enclosed area.

The boy is pied and has quite a ot of white on him and the hen is a cameo so she is a cream color . They are visually very stunning. As for the noise... breeding season has just ended and he has lost his train for the year, so he won't be calling till next March. They are 3 years old and produced 20+ babies this year.

Please pm me if anyone is interested....

What is frustrating is I live just by Del Mar horse park and have 24/7 noise (horses, emergency vehicles, soccer noise), smell (horses) and floodlights day and night, as well as crowing from all the roosters that live at the animal hospital 300 yards from me.....
