I would concur that it takes about 5-7 days to change a broody's mind. I have had good success just continually disturbing the hen from her nest. I had one who was trying to go broody in my window planter. I would just mover her every few when I was home after about a week she seemed to conclude that it was not a good nest.

Would anyone be interested in a bantam frizzled naked neck roo?  He's a beautiful guy, very sweet and was my lap chicken...., unfortunately, he started crowing this morning and I need to re-home him ASAP (as in today) before my neighbors get upset and rat out the rest of my flock.  His name is Swiffer Duster and he's about 6 months old.

Thanks!

Swiffer is back home with Jules and Gail.  He is missed.  I love this little guy.....*sigh*

((offgridmama)) I'm so sorry.

I processed my first chickens this morning. I had 2 cockerels start crowing this morning and given the recent neighbor complaints about the beloved Mr. Peep (who was very much a pet) I knew I needed to do something today. I thought about seeing if someone would take them, but they were almost certainly headed for freezer-ville in any case, so I decided to woman-up and do it myself. The first one was so hard. I had to cut the neck several times, and it felt awful to take a life like that. But, I'm not a vegetarian so it'd be hypocritical to think that its not taking a life when someone else does the hard part for you.

I have one other cockerel that is the same age and hasn't crowed yet (I wasn't up to condemning him for the crimes of others, and I didn't have the time this morning). Ugh. I'm proud of doing it, but not eager to do it again soon.

That's going to be me in three months.  I'm going to try the killing cone, sharp tool in the brain thing.  I think it's the responsible thing to do.  Did you try to clean them or just toss?  I tossed the last two juveniles I had to cull, I was too intimidated to even try to skin them :(
