We love our Nankin hen. She's very sweet and good natured, excellent bird for beginners or kids. She comes when called, she's an excellent bug hunter, likes to sit on your lap (or head, or...

Leghorns are great egg laying chickens. They are friendly to other Leghorns and can easily fly. The only problems is that they are bad in the pecking order and they can make a mess of the yard....

Don't feel bad about being the oldest person in the H.E. class. I teach H.E. and we get lots of older folks in the class fairly regularly.
I didn't have a very good deer season. Probably the worst season I've ever had. Not only did I not get a buck within bow range, I never even had one in rifle range, except for one that came by before light.
I am "hoping" I can turkey hunt this year. It's one of my favorite things to do. I'm having a total knee replacement on Monday, so I'm hoping I will feel up to getting out there and doing some hunting in a month. I know I can't walk far enough, but if my DH will drop me off at my favorite turkey spot (carry me out in the John Deere gator) I ought to be able to spend some time out there. I'll be off work, so that will allow me a little extra time to hunt. I hunt them with a bow.
It's been an unusually warm winter, and people are starting to find morel mushrooms all around us. I haven't been out to look yet because of my leg, but maybe we can make a trip out in the gator. I know just where to look, so it shouldn't be too much walking if they are up.
I just got a pair of royal palm turkeys. The only reason I have them is so they will call the wild turkeys into the yard. No, I don't hunt them in the yard. I just love to be able to watch them from my dining room table, and to listen to the toms gobbling. I love being able to watch the wildlife. I had a couple bourbon red turkeys a few years ago, but the tom "cooked" himself in a barrel one hot day. He used to call the wild ones in, but they usually came in on the north side of the place where I couldn't watch them from the house. I've got these new turkeys farther to the south, closer to the house so maybe it will work better this time.

Morel mushrooms are delicious! People around here collect them, and if they get enough they sell them for $30-$45 per pound! I've never sold any.
I did make it out to look yesterday, but we didn't find any. It's still early, so they will probably be up while I'm off my feet. That's the way it goes sometimes.![]()
Morel mushrooms rolled in Western Star Seasoned Flour, fried in butter and rib eye steaks from the grill was my son's favorite meal of the year. I always let them choose what they wanted for their birthday dinner, and that was what my oldest always asked for.![]()
