chicken cannibalism

I am glad everyone is OK !

Different parts of the country are subject to different extreme weather conditions. I would rather chance a tornado (how big is Texas anyway) than a hurricane, earthquake or 12 feet of snow.

The thought of a tornado scares the ---- out of me! Born and raised Southern California girl... I'll take an earthquake any day!

I vote for hurricanes- 'course down here on the coast, you get used to it pretty darn quick. (Not to mention, hurricane parties are lots of fun)

No tornado's, earthquakes, or **gasp** SNOW, for me!

LOL! I'll take the snow. I hate it, it sucks, but other than broken tree limbs, maybe power outages, it doesn't carry away one's house!! Just get out the shovel and Dig Dig.

This year I'm sick to death of snow. I don't really mind hurricanes, but we live in Maine, so a 'REAL' one (one that was more than a level 1 <sorry, however they rate them!>) would probably scare me silly. And the thought of tornadoes makes me want to run for the root cellar... um, if we had one.

Maybe it depends which region you are in, and what you are used to? 'Cause snow tunnels would be COOL LOL!

LOL...that is ok for getting off subject

They are doing good. Everyone has seemed to settle down and nobody is pecking on anyone. I never realized how much they can "mow" grass. The little area where we set up the temporary pen had really tall grass and weeds and now it looks like we mowed. It is awesome. I would love to let them run the backyard but not sure that I could catch them all again.

Does anyone clip flight feathers? I have a couple of smaller ones that are beginning to fly and can get about a foot or foot and a half off of the ground. I would love to have them range the backyard but don't want them eventually flying over the 7 foot fence and getting lost or picked up by predators or neighbors.

Also I know they need medicated feed and the purina turkey starter they were on was medicated and when I went to get more cause I was low the feed store was out. They guy sold me some feed and after I started using it I noticed that it is labeled for hens in production. Do I continue to mix that with what I have left or go and find another feed store that has medicated feed?

Glad they are doing better. Your lawn will be bare pretty soon.

The layer feed has additional calcium in which the chicks don't need. It can cause problems if they stay on it for an extended period of time. I would check around for some more medicated chick or turkey starter feed.

I have never clipped feathers so can't help you out. Here are the instructions from the EZ BYC website.

The instructions don't mention it, but I think you are supposed to wait until their permanent feathers come in. ????
