Need to sex Call Ducks

About a month ago, we received our first call ducks. The previous owner said that the white was a two year old female. The other was hatched in May and he "thought" it was a female based on the quack. It is a blue fawn. So now this duck should be about four months and my daughter and I have been arguing for a month as to whether it is a male or a female. Neither of our calls are noisy--they barely make noise at all. In fact, the white adult is very skittish and opens her mouth at me like she is hissing every time I come near her pen, but it's a silent hiss. The blue fawn does have a longer beak than the adult female, but even though it is darkening a little, I would definitely put her more in the brown category rather than a blue category. Is it just too early still to tell, or should she/he be obviously a male or female by now? Still no tail curl, that's for sure. And no eggs for either, but I am guessing that is mostly seasonal for calls.

If your call ducks aren't noisy, "they barely make any noise at all", I would think you have males. Females are VERY loud and they tend to be quite chatty and vocal. With a yardful of them, the sounds can be deafening. We can't even yell to each other over the din. LOL We live out in the country, as we wouldn't be able to live in town, with these girls and all their "noise". Can you post pics of your birds? Either way, enjoy your ducks.

Well, the white should be a female, because that's what the previous two owners said, and she doesn't have a tail curl and I would think a 2 year old would have shown a tale curl. I will admit that she doesn't lay eggs, but I assumed that calls are more of a spring layer.
I was going to post a picture soon after my original posting in early Sept. and went out to take a picture and WOW! you could start seeing the colors on the blue fawn. Definitely a male. :) I guess we should have gone by beak size. He's fairly fully colored now with his tale curl.
And yes, they still are both super quiet. It's funny, because I completely prepared myself for some noisy pets and they are quieter than any other animals we have.

Yes, call ducks are often seasonal layers, being productive in the spring. That being said, we have 9 females laying &/or nesting at this time. LOL silly girls. I guess having been in the hobby for almost 30 years, have seen and heard a lot of "sales pitches" that were inaccurate, misinformed and many times just plain old dishonest, as a way to sell. I could be a bit jaded. I hope your white one is a girl and is just a rare quiet one. Our call duck girls can be heard over a quarter of a mile away. They are loud. Males can't really be heard once one is several feet away. You are lucky to have their beauty, personality but without ll the volume. ;)

Good luck & enjoy your ducks.

Thanks so much for your help. This pair was given to us. We were actually looking for a white drake because my son had his heart set on one, but this pair came our way and we are so grateful. And if the white female ever turns out to be a male, I guess we will be getting what he originally wanted.
