Canadian Ontario Hatchery?

I'm in Ontario also... and I've been wondering where to get more of a Variety of bird.. Chickens are addictive!

I have Ameraucana and Easter Egger (Ameraucauna/Maran) chicks for sale. Hatched November 10th so will make wonderful ready to lay spring chickens. Where are you located?

Down by Windsor.. in Essex. I won't be able to add to my flock until spring. I would need to build a separate "smaller" coop area to keep them separated. I was hoping to get a few eggs for spring, I have one broody hen that is just dying to be a mom..lol and no roosters. If you are close enough, maybe I could buy a few eggs in the spring for her to hatch out.?

Ah, I'm an hour north of Toronto. I'm sure there are many fertile eggs closer to you. Lol. Good luck, it's a lot of fun.

I live in the Stouffville area (just moved to a 1.8 acre place) and want to get started in chickens. I'm thinking more about started birds than chicks, hopefully increase the chance they are all hens. I've looked at the local feed store and Frey's online, but I really don't want beak trimmed birds and would also prefer some variety. Where are people buying birds now?

I started out with a variety of sexed day olds from Frey's which I picked up the same day as I picked up my Ready to Lay pullets from Pullets Plus. It was fun to get the chicks and watch them grow but rewarding to get the eggs immediately from the pullets. Then I was hooked!
I wanted a variety of chickens that were beautiful so I bought some Day old "sexed" Ameraucanas (don't ever believe someone if they say they can sex Ameraucanas--ended up with 5/10 cockerels), two Silver Laced Wyandottes and for dark eggs a couple of a Marans. Then I was really, really hooked. I bought an incubator, after all I now had some roosters! So, long story short, you can get chickens everywhere. Breeders advertise in the Feather Fancier, various Facebook groups, even Kijiji. A good start may be the Saugeen Fur and Feather Buy Sell and Trade. It's a huge sale in Mount Forest twice a year with so many different varieties available. This year's sale is April 30. People arrive in the middle of the night to set up and although it officially starts at 7:00, the rare/great stuff is gone before then. It's very busy! Good luck and build a coop bigger than you think you want!!!!
