The thing I disagree with in that statement is the fact that sometimes nothing went wrong. The rooster just matured and his hormones kicked in and his adult personality came out.

Wait...I'm not trying to give advice on how to handle a mean rooster per say.......that is Yazzo.....this is his topic...I'm only commenting that I have done what he does and it has worked for me so far....so far is what I have stated. I have stated my opinion for dealing with ANIMALS and I stated that several times.....what I believe is that my opinion is for animals in general.....and I do believe chickens fall into that. No you didnt attack me......that wasnt in reference to you.....there WAS some nastiness in a few comments. You know dog lovers will attack us both for taking the human out of animals???? LOL

The rooster just matured and his hormones kicked in and his adult personality came out. - probably - but my question.....does that mean he cannot be dealt with any other way than your dinner table? Maybe there are other ways...MAYBE there is a way to deal with him if we think outside the box...

And sometimes "all that crap" is full of misinformation that needs to be corrected - the crap I meant - is the tone of nastiness...not the knowledge.

Yes I'm new to chickens, which is why I visit the threads...and read all I can....I had a chicken for 2 years before the spring...1 or 30 chickens 1 day or 100 years....I learn fast and Im a very smart person. I'm not the average humanizing-animal lover on here who wants to save them all into a rooster sanctuary. I do know people who have dealt with mean roosters since I have gotten my chickens and us country folk who seem simple to some just like to listen to what the animals tell us. It works for me....I just tend to agree with Yazzo's theory.....if it falls flat for me...I'll be the first to post on here and say I was dead wrong and my rooster went under the ax and his head now hangs outside the coop! But Not before I've tried all I can first. I'm not afraid to admit if I make an error in judgment or something I do....but I do firmly believe if an accident happens 99.9% of the time it will be because of something I HAVE DONE.....I have seen this time and time again here on our farm working every day with our different animals. why would chickens be so different?

EGGsellent advice!

I am please with my roo so far and he seems fairly comfy and rather tame though I haven't tried to pick him up, I am looking forward to trying your techniques! Makes sense to me!

Sorry, but genetics is a major component of human aggressiveness in roosters (and also other species including humans); therefore, it is an integral part of this discussion. I have been around animals all 69 years of my life. Raised on a farm, raised poultry and many other species for food and show, have competed at beagle field trials for over 50 years with the same family of dogs, got a B.S. in animal husbandry and made a living working in the animal husbandry field. Guess what? I know that I don't have all the answers. Quick learner and intelligent person that you are, I doubt that you have all of the answers. Why not listen and concede that others may have input of some import? They say that the measure of true intelligence is to know your own limitations. Mods., if I am out of line on this, please delete, and I apologize. Geo.

Wilmothfarms, after reading this entire thread, I believe maybe it is time for you to consider possibly, to stop talking and rationalizing, and sit back and listen to people who have raised chickens and roos for many years.

These last two comments are exactly what I'm talking about when it comes to attacking people. Neither of you know me, nor have I said anything out of line to any of you or anyone on here that would call for comments such as yours.
HarlansHollowFarms - your comment doesnt even deserve a comment back - childish....and I wont stoop to that level.
sourland- If you read my comments I didnt claim to have all the answers - never did - you said Why not listen and concede that others may have input of some import? - Ummm did you again not read my responses and my questions that I asked to SOMEONE who HAS had experience on the opposing side????? And how I agreed with a lot of the comments made by those who disagreed with what I said?????
They say that the measure of true intelligence is to know your own limitations - yes it is....not reading a discussion fully can limit you, so can being ugly which both of you seemed to want to do just now. Dont pretend to know me, or my limitations....this was all uncalled for.

Because I do not agree does not make me unintelligent or wrong....I have not said the same for any of you....tho I could just because I oppose your opinion....but I do choose to conduct myself in a much higher standard than that.

Seems to me you just lowered you high standards and regressed to name calling.

I'm not getting into an argument online....I've stated my opinions...I dont care who likes my opinions - I agree with this post so why am I being the target now? Because I'm the only one online right now? Is it worth being ugly over? NO. My thoughts...dont like the topic...go to a diff thread, I tried to learn something....thanks for discussing with me your side of the story those of you who did so in a nice manner...I respect that...and I see that we see eye to eye on a lot of things and some we dont. Just because we dont on everything doesnt make me ignorant. Or anyone else on here who doesnt agree with you. Yes I agree, maybe the moderators need to take a look at this thread. I'll keep my thoughts to myself because I WONT play into this kind of discussion any further when it turns this way...but I WILL continue reading because I DO like this thread and agree with his theory. PEACE OUT PEEPS

After reading this stuff, I am still planning to try the technique, but will invest in some thick overalls to wear in the pen

Folks, this thread has been closed due to the bickering.

Sometimes, you just have to put on your big girl (or boy) pants & agree to disagree.

Don't be rude...or nasty...think...THINK before you post.
