best brand of chicken feed?

Hi my name is Emily
And for a school project I need to find out the most commen type of chicken food and the most commen brand of chicken food so I need feedback ASAP #1. What is the most commen type of food? #2. What is the most commen brand of food? Thanks so much

The most common ingredient is corn...brand I would say purina

Wonder if they mean ingredients or like type (layer, meat, chick starter, pellets, crumbles, etc.)? Ingredients I would agree and type I'd say probably layer pellets are most common. And agree with Purina for brand.

Otherwise, one should consider commercial flocks which are the most populous. Egg and broiler companies make their own feed to their own formulas.

IMHO, the most common type would either be layer feed made by the mills owned by Eggland or RoseAcre, or the broiler feed made by Tyson or another meat bird producer.

I think definitely more people get non organic because organic is expensive or people don't know better but organic is definitely growing and there's a lot of in between feeds now, not quite expensive organic but not quite terrible food. But yeah, I'd say non organic.

I switched my girls to an organic, non soy, non GMO, I forget the name of it but I was told it was very popular. The hens got diarrhea and didn't seem to like it as much as the purina Layena. It had a lot of alfalfa in it that didn't seem to get eaten. It was very expensive. Their eggs got very thin shelled and were breaking all the time in the nest boxes. I switched back to Purina and everyone seemed happier. I also am concerned about the amount of soy they were consuming so I started making my own scratch without soy. I think chickens should eat meat and I feed mine salmon, tuna , ground beef, they go crazy over it. They also free range all day. I doubt have much choices for chicken feed in San Diego.

School project? This is a very good question not easily answered. Lets say you live in the state of Alaska verses the state of Texas. Climates are entirely different and so are the crops that are available. Common feed for chickens is anything they might forage for and consume. That includes bugs, weeds, grass, grains, berries, and their diet is unlimited. If you put it in their dish and they eat it, its common! Commercially, manufacturers have put together what seems to be all the required supplements and nutrients to raise healthy chickens. Across the vast expanse of the United States, farm agriculturalists grow many of the products packaged and sold to chicken owners. Depending on where you live, the needs for your chickens may differ and the product you purchase has all the needs regardless of where you might live. Mostly, depending on the chicken breed you are raising.
A farmer may purchase his feed from a local grain maker or the local feed store. They should both provide the ingredients required for raising healthy chickens. It is up to us the consumer to read the label as to what our chickens are eating! Truthfully, the diet of chickens is anything but common! Yet, we have common types of processed commercial feeds and brands formulated for use. My gosh! The names and different types nation wide are way too many to put into words. The one thing I will tell you that most people have in common is the "cost" and not always the brand label.
Good luck with your project and share your feedback! Good luck.
