Sumatra Thread!

Wondering if my hen Casino may be a Sumatra mix. She showed up in some friends yard with chicks so I have no idea as to her parentage. Her tail carriage is more upright and she has some brown in her tail and some body feathers as well as light shafts on her chest. She's a very fierce and frequent broody, she lays a medium sized tinted/kinda cream or very very light brown egg. When not laying her comb and facial skin is black. Her legs are black and she has the LONGEST nails/claws ever.

Here's some pics...tell me what you think...

Vegaschick. She looks more Sumatra in the broody pics than in the others. Are the black and white chicks from her eggs? They look like Sumatra chicks. She may be a mix. Are the bottoms of her feet yellow? That's a common Sumatra trait that sometimes comes thru in mixes as well.
I'm leaning towards a mix. My Sumatra hens lay from a pure white egg, to a light cream colored egg. Very light cream colored.

she has sumatra OR some type of game in her. defiante mix of something, would just be a guess though from anyone as to what. Look can be decieving on mixes, though she does have some sumatra features.
The black chick is a barred bird from the white dot on it's head

She looks like a black brass game hen to me.
Check for yellow color on bottom feet ,more than one spur button not spurs, dark eyes .
She probably is a Sumatra cross
Beautiful hen by the way

I'm sorry I don't recall...was this an egg you had gotten from another breeder or do you have the parents and can try again?

stonykill - I knew from looking at pics of Sumatra's that she couldn't be pure, but maybe a mix. No, the chicks aren't her own because I don't have a roo!

The little pullet with her in some of the collage photos is one she was mama to when my friends found her. Of course, I have no idea if that one is her blood either, except it lays the same cream colored egg she does but smaller.

Boggy Bottom Bantams - right on the money with the black and white chick. It's a BCMxCM male, of course, with the dot. I also think her features sure look similar to Sumatra's which is more info than I had before. When I did the 'what breed is this' all I got is that she must be some kind of game bird. This may have narrowed it down a bit for me I think.

gallo4319 - Thanks, I thinks she's a beauty too! I will check her feet/legs/spurs and get back to ya. Her eyes are dark though as can be seen in the photos. Sure wish you had a photo to share of a black brass game hen....(hint,hint)

klf73 - sorry for your loss! That totally stinks!

. I have been trying for dun or khaki for so long this platinum one could have helped me. I have 2 black ones now, with my luck they are both cockerals

Ooooh, Sumatras.

My husband has a few. We love them. They make such nice yard ornaments. I love to see them when I come home. They just roam all day and sleep up high, under a walnut tree, at night. Easy keepers, I think. Different from our other birds.

Anyway, here are his birds.

About 6 - 8 months old (sorry, poor quality photos).

My favorite pic of the roo, here, at about 1 1/2, I think. He looks serene.

And two YouTube videos I took a few months ago just messin' around. May be a bit boring but don't say I didn't warn ya.

For fun, I'd love to get your critiques on the birds.

What are DQs for this breed? My husband doesn't show but we like to learn. Thanks.
