With several comments about finding it hard to obtain good quality Brabanters, has anyone purchased from Sandhill? Where have you found good quality stock? If our town changes it's regs, this is...
-
I like everything about it except how it looks right now. I know it lays decently. It is a great part of my great waterfowl flock.
-
First, watching a runner duck run is awesome. They can find their own food. They aren't like pekins in water. Mine haven't started laying but I heard their decent.
-
Its not as fat and slow as a pekin, but its not frail either. I want a mallard but I don't want a flying bird. The rouen is great for that.
-
They are my calmest birds and are easiest to catch. They eat less than Pekins. I heard they also lay well, but mine are younger.

I think we might have another batch in the incubator so another chance, otherwise we will just work with the duns we have so far to improve the birds for next year.

A Platinum, Dun and Black- I think.

Sounds good to me FMP, just let me know when you've got eggies. I think I'm gonna have to sneak them into the bator though... either that or start rehoming some of the chicks we hatched. I need to sell the Blues and Blacks, I don't plan on keeping anything but the Duns and the Platinums from my pen.

No Bull poop from me. I'm not arguing, I'm stating what I see in MY flock of 10 years.I'm NOT P.C. If that offends please just block me :)

I like that hen
I noticed your hen has some bad legs condition.
You could spray some w40 on her legs as crazy as that sounds that will help to make her legs
Clean and smooth.
Thats my easy way to fix that and kill tickseconomic crisis answer: golden eggs.economic crisis answer: golden eggs.post #767 of 20613/12/12 at 8:33pmI'd call her a 'blue splash'...she has some leg mites too, you can fix that by putting some petroleum oil on them.

Imported Pure English BBS Orpingtonspost #769 of 20613/13/12 at 3:32amthanks. I have a splash, so I know what a ssplashlooks like. I can see how "Blue splash " is a good description. But the general consensus is a blue as I have been saying. If I can ever catch the ferrel little girl I'll look at her legs.

post #770 of 20613/13/12 at 7:34pmi am new to these birds. just did not see anyone talking about splash much. bought these birds last year and took me until now to find some hens arounf here(north MS). I have a splash roo with my two black hens. i now have 8 eggs in the incubator and am on pins and needles waiting on them. have learned a lot by reading old post here. iwas thinking my roos were not real because of no black skin now i know how wrong that was. lol
