Do they charge you to start with anyway? I am assuming that is why the heavy clothes?

Well, if they have been attacking, yes you need to protect yourself , and not back away.  I think it's kinda fun.  I've even shown my neighbor's rooster the light.  The poor neighbor was terrified of him.  But they "loved" him, they said he was family!!!

Well i really want to keep him but not at the cost of grandkids...He charged at me yesterday where before he would only come at me if we met head to head. So I am to go at him and make him move away? What if he stops and then comes at me? I want to know before I head after him because my reaction right now is to whack him. How do I handle him then?

True to type, GOOD Houdans should look and weigh practically nothing like Polish except for their crest and beard/muffs, however most out there are hatchery type and sadly basically Polish with 5 toes and mottled coloration. I use Houdans because the Houdan parents from my Houdan-hybrids here were big and meaty, which improves on my Polish as well as adds a newer version of mottling. The mottling in Tolbunts isn't correct, at least, in almost every US based Tolbunt I've seen, and it doesn't help much to continuously use the same birds, instead, introducing a new form/pattern may help especially in a decently marked bird, at least, the tail and wings as that to me is the more important part. My Tolbunt boys are pretty well marked except for their terrible tails and secondary and primary feathers. I notice that a common thing, the males are terribly marked however I've seen plenty a really nice females. But, Bob (vice pres) mentioned once, it is a lot like the mottling in Morgan Whitehackle gamefowl. They too have odd and often excessive mottling.

The white crests you often see are in young birds and it's just a part of how mottling comes in on them. The breast and crest are often solid white, then in the second feathering they turn a normal mottled color, however yes, some do have the error of solid white in their crest. I don't think it has anything to do with WC background though, but, I really don't know. I know that Orloff and GL was used in Tolbunts in the past, that's my knowledge extent.

Nice trio Bob. smile.png And wow, nice auction activity!

If he can get your grandkids, it's not worth it.

Keep walking, and you can shush him with your foot.  Just keep making him move.  Don't let him eat drink or mate while you're doing this.  You are just teaching him, in rooster language, that you are alpha roo.

He may try each time you come for a few days.  My last "pupil" finally lets me touch him now.  He had his "enlightening" two years ago.

If he stops, get him moving again.  Just shush him with your foot and keep coming at him.  I think it's kinda fun, especially when they finally give you that "what am I allowed to do?" look.

Two days ago he came running after me pinning me in the pen. I was able to get the door closed in time and he was trying to come through the door at me. Later he started attacking two of the lesser roos so I penned him up. If I walk up to him he starts charging....I don't have a chance to shufle him away. Does that make sense. Any time we wind up face to face he charges...he doesn't back down. If I throw him off with my foot he comes right back. The only way I can get him to stop is with a stick.

Oh Welasharon, I would get myself a straw broom and give that rooster the fight he is looking for.  I would then pick him up and carry him around upside down for a bit, it changes the attitude some how.  I think he needs some hurt to help him feel the love.  thumbsup.gif
