MAJOR LICE Infestation in my Yard!!

I have tried DE in the coop, I didn't notice any improvement in there. I put it everywhere, on their roosts, in their bedding, in the dirt to the point of my DH asking if the chickens could OD on the stuff! Our yard is too big to spread it all over that, and I have heard that it is useless when wet. I have been unable to find Sevin so far. My neighbor sprays malathion in the yard the night before a yard party to keep the bugs down. I'm wondering if this would work for me.

my comments were meant to be helpful, not a crusade for or against chemicals. i think it is appropriate if something is being recommended and someone knows or suspects it may be harmful to pets and humans then i would like to hear that. it does not mean someone cannot come to a different position. i was raised on a farm and still live in a farming community and know that chemicals are necessary. bayer makes sevin and if you look at their own msds sheet for sevin it says....may be fatal if swallowed, harmful if inhaled, contains ingredients that are considered to be probable or suspected human carcinogen. if you still want to use it, then by all means go ahead. the bad ingredient in it is carbaryl. i think different view are what makes this site so great.

Wasn't just your post; several others all combined seemed to be focused on turning it into a pro/anti chemical debate rather than on how to help the OP. I still believe the first step is getting an actual ID of the bug, determining if it is something benign or needing treatment.

I do agree that providing accurate information on precautions and side effects that should to be considered is appropriate. The ALL CAPITAL LETTERS kind of detracted from the message rather than letting the words speak for themselves.

again, i use either all caps or all small letters, i have partial paralysis of my hands and it is much easier for me...tolerance and understanding before speaking would be nice or perhaps if critical a private p.m.

you may not have lice in your yard.....you may have ticks(small wood ticks) not the fat ticks...my son bought some property near a lake and when he walked it, his clothes were covered with these.....

I'm still seeing them. They are tiny and can jump. Light color, like sandy or light dirt. more than 4 legs I think. Still researching what they are, thinking that maybe when the rains come this fall/winter they will all be washed away and leave my girls alone.
