illinois towns that allow backyard chickens

I am in Decatur and you can have chickens here so long as your coop is 75 feet from your neighbors house. Where i am our lots out here avarge 60 by 160 and on the side i have my coop at its an empty lot so I am safe all the way around. Most of my neighbors dont even know I have them as I have a 6 ft privacy fence. The ones that do love it. As far as roosters you can so long as neighbors dont complain. They fall under nuisance law and no one has complained on my neighbor. Hers crows all the time. Also the only limits are selling chicks and ducks. They have to be 8 weeks old and you have to sell 10 or more at a time. You can have as many as you want so long as they are taken care of and the coop is clean and doesnt smell. But if you have alot and small space and not being taken care of good you can be charged with animal cruelity same as with any other animal.

You can have them in Cerro Gordo, Illinois, too.  They have to be 75 feet from your neighbor, like Decatur.  We've only had problems with one neighbor, but she looks for trouble and everyone in town knows she's crazy (has always complained about her neighbors).  We have eight happy hens!

Evanston just passed an ordinance allowing backyard hens.

Also, Naperville, Saint Charles, Warrenville, and Downer's Grove.

I heard about Evanston, although it was a so-so passing. Limited people can have chickens as pets.

Where I live in UT, no chickens allowed in our city. Unless your've zoned in an agriculture area. The city council just voted backyard chickens down, again, last month. And it's very sad how uneducated the council memebers were. Chickens spread disease, they are loud, they smell, on and on. Another thing they siad was animal control doesn't have time to "respond" to calls from neighbors about chicken complaints. Very sad. Lucky for me, I'm zoned where I can have them and am blessed where my neighbors don't mind. It's amazes me how uneducated these council members are and the responces they had to the families who wanted to raise chickens.

From what I can tell, the Downers Grove ordinance states you can have up to 4 mature birds, but the coop must be at least 50ft from all neighboring property lines.  Since most average lots around here are 60 x 150 (give or take), it essentially prohibits them.
