illinois towns that allow backyard chickens

Chicago is proposing an ordinance to ban roosters, restrict hens to 6, demand space ratios, and require residents to mail letters to every neighbor within 500 ft asking their permission to have hens, ducks, or other farm animals.

Residents can also petition to make their precinct "farm free" with their alderman.

There will be a $25/yr per animal registration fee.

They are also looking to go after urban farmers as well.

Fines range from $100-$50p per day. This will go heavily against POC which urban farming is used in a way to lower food costs or used as an instructional tool for schools. Many of Chicago's Hispanic neighborhoods have animals like chickens as a cultural thing. This will further divide the people of chicago between the elite political "haves" and the rest of the city being the "have nots".

Can anyone else guide me on the Will County IL amendment? https://www.google.com/amp/www.chic...es-chickens-st-0219-2-20160219-story,amp.html

So according to the amended ordinance, only 1 chicken/12,500 square feet, yet the McLeans have 5 chickens on a 15,000 square foot lot? Which also means only 3 chickens per acre? This still seems very restrictive. We have an 11,400 square foot lot and have 5 hens (wish me luck with my neighbor), and the size of my lot seems to accommodate them just fine so far. My brother lives in Pilsen and has 5 hens in a tiny courtyard and they seem very happy and productive. I feel like the ordinance did way too little to allow middle class residence to make use of their property. We can not afford 3 acres to house our babies, and it's a shame we are restricted like this.
Probably shouldn't try men considering I don't live in Illinois but don't feel bad in my area they fight and fight and took forever to loosen the restrictions on chickens. They required 5 acres minimum to raise chickens! I know of no chickens that need 5 acres! Even in the agricultural zoning areas And most of the county I live in is pretty rural It finally loosened a little bit but it took a lot and it took a long time

After months of research and preparation we went before the village board last month with our amended livestock ordinance. We asked for 5 hens to be allowed as pets, no roosters, we set guidelines for boundaries, etc. I pulled together an informational packet which included research, letters from our schools agricultural teacher, 4H, and other educational leaders. Spoke with surrounding towns that allow backyard girls, (they all stated not one problem reported)
Last night our proposal was voted on and defeated 3-2 (one board member didn't even show up)
I would love some advice on where to go from here, I don't want to give up, just not sure how to change the minds of men who are not taking this seriously. The reason's they give for saying no are sooooo ridicules it seems as though they have better things to do..... We live in a small farming community of 750. For goodness sakes our school is called Farmington Farmers!!! These board members are not listening to the citizens of the community.

Can I propose again? Should I talk with the board members who voted yes and ask how to change others minds? What would you do?
Run for your school board and vote those stupid morons OUT OF OFFICE!!! They clearly do not care about the people and kids in the community. I'm sure you'll have tons of support!!!!!!!!!
