When do you let your chickens out each morning?

I'll let my chickens out whenever I get up, which is always before 8:00 AM depending on what time I need to be in at work. Regardless of how early it is when I open the door, they will not go out until it's light. I've opened at 5:00 AM before and watched to birds just stare at the opening until the sun came up.

As soon as they start losing light outside, they come in.

I don't always let mine out everyday. But most days I do. I have 4 pens and I only open one pen a day to keep arguments down. And I usually don't let the layers out till they've paid their rent.

Sometimes I do because they go back to their nests to lay anyway. I rake out the runs and coop while they are out to avoid freaking them out. They see me with anythng that has a handle and they think I have the net.

I don't do any heavy cleaning to avoid getting anything wet. It gets wet and it invites flies. I need to try that DE to see if that will help. I clean out the wood shavings out of their nests and usually one or two will come to see what i'm doing. They are nosey. I had one stand and watch me process quail one day.
