Expectant parent club! Where the pregnant people hang out. - Page 467

My acid reflux hasn't been horrible (yet) but I take cimetidine (Tagamet) for it and it helps.  My doctor has said I could take Pepcid, so I'm sure you're fine.

I definitely worry that my stress will affect the baby, but there's only so much I can do about it.  I try not to get worked up about stupid stuff, but I've had quite a bit of stressful important stuff going on this go around.  I'm working 2 jobs, chasing a toddler, trying to keep up with the animals which gets harder the hotter it gets, the house is a wreck because I have no time to devote to it, found out DH had cheated on me after 12 years (which we've worked through and are stronger now, but it was extremely stressful for quite a while), financial stress after DH just had emergency surgery and has been off work (thank God he goes back Monday), financial stress trying to prepare for maternity leave (ugh), etc.  Oh well, we'll get through it, and I'm trying to just relax and not stress too much.

I'm upset.  Saw the midwife today, she didn't seem to listen to me properly.  Had to tell her 3 times that I have essential hypertension which precludes a "natural" birth, I have to have a caesarian because it isn't safe for me to give birth the other way.  3 times!!!  And due to the system here, I don't get a choice about her being my primary pregnancy carer because she's the midwife attached to the gp's surgery.   Fortunately for me I'll be seeing an obstetrician at the earliest opportunity.

Also I was told repeatedly during the debacle that was my miscarriage last year that because of it I'd be able to get an early scan.  So I asked for one today.  "No, you won't be getting one until 12 weeks".. so that's another 2 weeks feeling scared that my baby might be dead.  I feel like giving up.

Don't give up Ebwy2, keep talking with her to get her to understand.  They tend to treat every case the same when clearly it is not.  Praying for you and the baby.

This week has been very hard.  I had the sugar test Monday and failed.  The 12 hour fasting for a one hour test made me very moody and mean.  If I don't skip meals I am okay with my sugar but skipping meals makes me really sick and very mean.  Since I failed Monday's test I had to fast again last night for 12 hours to do a 4 hour test.  During the 4 hours they would not allow me to eat or drink anything, no sleeping, no walking around.  I fought sleep the whole time and wanted to slap the lady next to me who wouldn't stop complaining about everything.  I have been light headed and grumpy all day.  My eyes are not dilating correctly according to my son which would explain why I can't see clearly.  I told my husband if I failed today's test too I am refusing to take the 5 hour test after fasting for 12 hours.  After seeing the shape I was in today and how "dumb" not eating made me I think he agrees with me.

I have given up - I don't get to talk to the idiot midwife until the day I have the scan either.

I hope they can sort out your tests without any more fasting for you.  it can't be good to go without food while you are trying to grow a whole new person!

Why are they making you fast?  I have my glucose test at my next appointment and my doctor specifically told me not to fast or change my eating habits at all.  Making you fast for that long is ridiculous and completely unnecessary.

I just had my glucose test at my last appointment, and I was told to fast for 4 hours. I failed (as I did last time), but I refuse to do the 3-hour test. You CAN refuse it-just try to be careful with what you eat, and you and the baby should both be fine. Declan was my 4th baby, and he was my smallest ever! 6 lbs. 14 ozs.-I am pretty sure it was an error on the testing-which is very common!

I'm not sure if they made me fast because my family has a history of diabities or if it's because I am slighly older this time.  Maybe that is the reason for fasting first, you are tested differently for everything once you hit the "high risk" age group.  Good luck with your test Kelly!
