Gray Silkies question - PICTURES - Page 7

I have hatched many of these from gray breeding. I call them "Charcoal" and it is not a color that I am striving for, but it is beautiful. Mine are not a combination of colors with different color parents, but came from very dark gray males to chinchilla gray females. I have seen this color in Lavender breeding, but the body color is much lighter and has a slight blue cast to it.
I keep all the non-penciled ones for future gray breeding. I had never had a male color like this, most of the males from the same breeding are more of a black and white than charcoal colored and the color is not even throughout the body. This year was the first year I hatched a cockerel that is very similar to the pullets below. Hope that helps, I love the color too.

So she wouldn't be considered a gray, or entered as a gray in a show?

I have a girl that looks similar and am wondering if she is a Gray or not.

She does have the penciling on the wings, so im guessing not gray. What would I call her then?

I have 2 and they hatched white with  small black spots on one and the other hatched rather like your chick.
my darkest one is the one that hatched white and you would never know it was the same bird.

I had a batch of gray chicks hatch out from my partridge pen, so I thought that I would revitalize this thread celebrate.gif

 

This is so new to me...I've heard both Silver Partridge and Gray being referred to as both the same color and as different colors. Are they the same, or what is the difference (pencilling??)

 

Also, 2 of these chicks have the slightest gold leakage on the tips of their wings. Should these be sold as PQ or is this leakage fairly easy to breed out?

 

ALSO, what color should I breed back to to intensify the gray and minimize the leakage??

I was too concerned about the gold coming in so mine all went to pet homes (they will be spoiled!) I'm going to do some investigating to see which of my hens is responsible and she may be for sale...I just filled up the pen I was going to use for Grays with a black trio...wink.png
