roosters protecting hens

I agree with the wire apron, and find a good watch dog even chicken wire isn't really safe from predators, a chicken is a chicken hen or roo and if you get 1 that will really protect the hens your going to be looking at 1 that your afraid of too.
 
I have a run that is 75 sq feet and a coop that is 35 sq feet. here is a list of all my chickens
1 buff hen
1 rir hen
1 mixed breed
1 laced wyandotte
1 cuckoo maran
1 silkie bantam
1 tophat bantam
and 1 mixed cochin tophat partridge bantam
is there a certain breed of rooster that would get along with these hens. do i have enough space to add a rooster currently none of the hens fight except for the occasional peck over bread or scratch feed.
 
I had an hen house with an attached run with grass underneath so they could peck. I had just started with 4 chickens. they were lovely and friendly. one morning I got up and saw there was blood was splattered everywhere, the predator (we later found it out to be a polecat ferret) had dug underneath and slaughtered them all. In the night I did here some crowing but i just thought it was a fessent or something. losing one chicken is heart breaking but losing your whole flock is soul smashing! now I have put wire underneath and strengthened the the wood. I have got more chickens now but am always afraid to wake up to that!

A good one will try, but mostly they keep a look out and give a warning. A rooster is still just a chicken and no match for a chicken eating predator. A secure coop and run is the best thing to protect your flock.

I know this is an old post but I had a racoon break into a pen I had my rooster in giving the hens a break from breeding. The roo managed to chase off the coon. He did loose some of his comb in the fight and blood of course but no severe damage. I haven't had any break ins in a long time. Luckily i've never had any losses since I got chickens again about 15 years ago. My losses have been from outside the pen with the chickens and eggs being taken by snakes.
