Hissing Goose - Friend or Foe?

We have six large "weeder" geese, no idea of their gender, but they are about six months old now and are out in a large fenced wooded area with ducks, roosters and three goats.

Lately one of the geese has started hissing at me or my husband when we go in to feed and water them.  He [I would guess it's a he?] comes close and even let me pet his neck briefly, something none of them have allowed us to do since they've gotten big.

What's the deal with the hissing? We've had them since they were babies and they know us.  It's not breeding season.  Is he just showing us he's the top goose of the bunch or is he trying to show us he a tough bird or what?

We're I go for runs everyday there's a goos that keeps chasing me I tried to sure him whos boss but it doesn't work what do I do

Just a tip I happened to find out when I was collecting eggs from my Toulouse geese, the dominant gander refuses to stop hissing and trying to nip when I'm anywhere near the eggs, (I stopped collecting eggs when the weather stopped freezing but none of them hatched) I carried a large convenience store beverage cup with me to collect the eggs and just stuck it over his head while I grabbed eggs, since they don't back up, it was easier than it sounds. Plus I can tell myself that he didn't know I stole eggs from the nest.

Mine (Lucy, but I don't know if she's a boy or girl) who's about 12 weeks old, will hiss if I'm working in my zucchini garden, and she wants a zucchini leaf, but 'm ignoring her or don't have any to give her lol.

Sometimes geese hiss at you to ask for food. I've seen that happens in some individuals. Geese come with different personalities and some of them simply use language in a different way than others, like we human usually do. You can find lots of this examples in human language, where you use one word for something but others use it for something else.
Mine just started doing it when she wants zucchini leaves lol!
