Salmon Faverolles - Page 2

I don't think I have showed many people the pictures of my first Faverolles and one of my first chickens. I had a mixed flock of birds from Meyer hatchery and some culls like Maran's and Ameraucana that I would sell colorful eggs from. Thats why my Mom is so used to having lots of eating eggs. We also used to have 25 hens so maybe thats why she is used to it lol 10 bantams are much easier for my parents to take care of.

Well here is the bird that got me into having Faverolles in the first place she was beautiful and I got very lucky with a faverolles from a hatchery. I feel she is the best Faverolles hen I have ever seen come from a hatchery at least color wise.

For about 35 years Buff Orpingtons have been my favorite breed and I have had as many as 60 hens at one time.  I have recently read how wonderful are the Salmon Faverolles.  So now  I have a dozen Favrolles chicks ordered from Cackle Nursery along with another dozen Buffs.

And I am wondering how the two breeds will get along together.  I have always found the Buff O's to be quite docile and friendly but read that Faverolles are even more docile and even near the bottom of the pecking range.  I would love some comments on how others have experienced this mixture of breeds.  I would rather not have to build another chicken house. sad.png

I have 5 Salmon Faverolles and should start laying eggs this October.  They have been a lot of fun to watch in the brooder and cant wait for them to grow up salmon.JPG

SO cute!! I just got 3 Bantam Faverolles about a month ago. I named them Phoebe, Popcorn and Samantha. They are my first chickens and I absolutely love them. I've also heard that they can be bullied by other members of the flock because they are so gentle, but since I don't have any chickens of other breeds, I haven't experienced that myself. They do seem really gentle, and son't mind being picked up. They even put up with my 10 year old brother and all of his friends. They laid 3 eggs all in the week after we got them, and haven't laid since. Not sure why they aren't laying, I think they might be molting though. I love this breed, they are so funny-looking, but in a really cute way. I think they make great first chickens. thumbsup.gif  yippiechickie.gif
