I hope you don't literally mean your neighbors....

Personally, I do not eat dog food. Do your neighbors prefer the dry kind?

I forgot the apostrophe! and/or the chicken's.. So my daughter isn't the only one that takes things said or written...literally.
I've had kids eat dog food in the past...but they grew out of it.

There is a web site somewhere on the forum which list what is ok for chickens to eat. I believe I read that cat food has something in it that causes renal failure in chickens. Perhaps someone has a link to that site. Good Luck.

I'm not finding that link...anyone know where it is?

After I posted the question about my chickens eating cat/dog food I had a person interested in buying some of my eggs until ...she found out what my chickens were eating. If EVERYTHING they were eating was organic and IF I didn't live near any crops which potentially were being sprayed...then she would want my eggs. So I did some looking up yesterday and found NO nutrition content on the feed I purchase other than percentage of protein. It is Country Lane....from Orschelns....then I found a 100%ORGANIC brand feed which listed all the Inorganic ingredients. (found that a bit humorous)

It seems I read once upon a time where unlike cows, pigs and goats eating organic vs inorganic feed, that what a chicken eats doesn't have an effect on their eggs or meat or at least as much of an effect. I was interested in any information you may have on that also.

I thought it was the other way around. People feed their chickens cat food to boost protein during a molt, but dog food has too much salt for routine feeding.
I doubt stealing leftovers will hurt though.

I messed up and got my dogs a cheap bag . They will NOT eat it. ..so we are certain it won't hurt the hens? I hate to waste it but if the chickens can have it as a snack it will be awesome!

My family's birds have eaten a lot of cheap dog food over the years. We never seemed to notice any problems from it. I'd just dole it out a little at a time. Or donate it to a shelter.
