That is just the funniest thing. Love your humor. And thanks for the tips. I occasionally ran into these trolls and yes, they can be aggravating. But I will do my very best to ignore them. Thank you.

I think this forum will be a lot of fun.

I have officially come out from under my rock for some air - what in the world is an internet troll?? Is this a real thing?

This is our rule against trolling:

Quote:

No Trolling (posting to provoke others, luring them to flame or rant). Trolling is sometimes done involuntarily, so please be considerate when posting.  NOTE:  Do not reply to or quote people who troll or flame.  Doing so may also be considered breaking our rules.

Mostly it is some sort of provoking post, often made in anger, indignation or a similar emotion.  But there are individuals who do this frequently or routinely, people who take pleasure in stirring a pot to see how much trouble they can cause.  In a way, an online bully.  Obviously, the way to handle them is ignore them, since they are always seeking a response.  And, of course, report them.

The first post of this thread has several amusing -- but true -- comments about them.

I like spotting the ones where someone goes on and on for pages and has an excuse for every suggestion kind hearted people make-just to see how many pages they can go for.  Sheesh.

What is a "troll"?

This is an excellently written piece of literature; I love it!

Texas Granny - a troll is the "internet term" that was assigned to those people who will always go out of their way to make your online life absolutely miserable!  Though - they are in the real world as well, but far more of them on the internet.  People like to hide behind the mask of the world wide web and shoot emotional bullets in peoples faces.  Somehow it makes them feel better, and yes, there are plenty of trolls on this very forum.  It's easiest to just block them as you see them to be honest. lol  It is mainly defined by internet people in the forums and the way they post to other people.  Usually they act high and mighty and heaven forbid they are wrong-ever.  Oftentimes they'll ask inappropriate questions, knowing they're just begging for an all-out brawl.  Or, they'll turn a perfectly tame thread into a political web of nasty by putting their own self-defined spin on it.  They're also very good at wording everything they say just to make people squirm.  They will argue unceasingly but most of the time will do it passively so they can also attempt the "poor me" act or they will aggravate an already sticky situation to make it even stickier.  They will always have something snarky to say and half their time is spent correcting other peoples' posts for their own twisted little dose of self-importance and bologna.  A troll is someone who will say "no, the correct term is periwinkle" if you say the sky is blue (just an example).   I block them as I see them, it's just easier for me and I'm not unduly influenced to reciprocate their obnoxious excuse for an existence (though sometimes I do anyway, when my human-ness takes over).

"troll" is the most widely accepted and known term for people like this, but my preferred term for them is a "pot stirrer" and I have always given them secret names.  I call them Mr. Or Ms. McNasty, or McNaughty, or McNuisance.  I have a weird attachment to "Mc" names because I like the sound of them "McIntosh, McKinley, McKennon, etc" it sounds neat...so I put a Mc on every troll's nickname I give them.  We have a nasty little chick that trolls all the other chicks actually, and his given name is Mr. McNaughtyface.
