can chicken eat whole grain???

On the free feeding salt subject -

Although minute amounts of salt are vital for a chicken's health, too much salt given to a flock be poisonous . In warm weather, be sure that water dishes remain full, and in winter make sure that water does not freeze. Food with high salt, causes diseases and clinical results in about 10% feed refusal.
Some Salt toxicity signs include In poultry, increased thirst, dyspnea, fluid discharge from the beak, weakness, diarrhea, and leg paralysis.
Post mortem lesions -
Lesions include ascites (water belly), excess fluid in lungs, liver atrophied, enteritis, hydropericardium, right side cardiac (Biventricular) hypertrophy, nephritis, cystic Dilation of seminiferous tubules and gonadal and skeletal and myocardial haemorrhage.

Salt - 0.2 to 0.5% is added to most poultry diets.
Keep in mind if you live in a area that has high levels of salt in the soil and your birds free range it will take less salt in there feed to show some of the signs of Salt toxicity signs.
