this might be a newb question.... but are bantam ducks more likely to be louder and want to fly around more? I have never heard about bantam ducks before... so I'm kind of just guessing that they are like call ducks.

bantam ducks are pretty much just another name for call ducks. Yes it's the group as a whole I know, but 90% of it's calls. The others are east indies, aussie spots, silkies and mini appleyards, there may be a couple others but they are the main ones.

Excluding the silkies, ALL of them fly like the wind. No they are  no louder than any other mallard derived breed, which is still pretty loud.

Gosh it has been a minute you guys!!  ep  BBB where are those darn photos?? Don't make me come snatch you off that "BOAT"!! lau  Did everyone have a great turkey day?? Oh mine was so, so, you know I sort of get depressed on turkey day.  I get to thinking about how we always went to my mothers-mother for dinner and then daddys-parents for supper my biological grandparents, all the family would attend, all of us cousins would just run and play.  But when my grandparents passed away in my later adult life we just all quit our tradition, so I barely get to even see cousins except passing in a grocery store or Wal-Mart.  Now my kids are grown, and they go it at there inlaws or with my divorced parents, and they don't have time to get by to see us, and I understand really. But I just wish sometimes we had kept our heritage tradition as adults.  Anyways, me and my hubby cooked us a pretty ham, some collard greens, stuffing, and bread so we just stuffed our faces in front of the TV all turkey day, lau oh I was looking like the pils do boy my belly was "SWOLLED" lau it took two days for it to shrink back to its normal "FAT" size,   lau, my hubby said food was going to be the death of us with "OVER STUFFING OUR FACES"!!  celebrate  I set some self blue bantam eggs and have one hen setting so guess what I am suppose to have New Years Day babies, how cool is that?? Well I have missed you all, and hope you guys are all well and have happy, happy, holidays!!  Daddy is still hanging in there, he gets alot of my time with his care and appointments, so I don't get to see you all as much as I sure wish I could, "LIKE THE GOOD OLE DAYS", but hope through the holidays to get to blog with you all.  frow

hey Linda, good to see your still out there. Hasnt been a lot happening on the ol thread so I just havent taken any, got to work with the birds all day tomorrow, get some breeder pens set up and move around some birds so I'll snatch a few pics of these buffs that I got, they are very nice, came from one of Colby's "northern" buddies  But man they look good.
Setting up a few color breeding pens this year too. I have enough colors now to start some project work. Going to make nutmegs and  dusky calls, wont take but a couple years. Might have the nutmegs pegged this spring in one breeding. Some of my chocolates are looking to have grey call in them, you can see the mallard pattern really well in them...that's all a nutmeg is, chocolate versions of a mallard pattern...so if I'm right, one more cross will have them.

Anyway, will do my best to snap yall a few pics of them all tomorrow. Got to get about 25 call pens built here pretty quick for  spring, wont be long.....

My khakis I won in a auction and got to purchase a pair of blue bibs a couple months back, I had them 2 weeks, went out to feed up and my Khaki hen was dead, oh I cried, so I have got to find me a hen, then my Green wing teals I got 3 weeks ago, I put in the pen with my wood ducks etc., I be darn I had 2 pair the one drake was dead in the nesting box, and the other one dang drake went through the darn 2 x 4 inch little dang square that I would have "NEVER IMAGINED" nothing could squeeze through well they he is gone, but the two hens went through the wire into the goose pen is how Roy knew they could fit through it and I moved them into a pen with that biddie mesh wire so they can't go "NO WHERE" lol, so now I got to round up two dang drakes, well LOL then you remember last spring I lost my drake to my Red Crested Pouchards and had 2 hens well stilll trying to scrape up to buy another drake well last week one of my hens was dead, oh honey the past 5 weeks has sure put a hurting on my pocket book to have to come up with extra cash as strapped as we are to replace these losses by Jan for spring LOL, I recand I am going to have to put Roy on a pole and giving table dances  lau  yeah, we would get sued and be broker lau, thought about hiring him out for exscort service to older women and widows, but I am affraid they may abuse him and not let him return home celebrate  so nevertheless my friend, it is sure been a rough one around this house, oh and let me tell you this one barnie it was a real "HOOT", I found a guinea nest that had 60 eggs, so put them in the sportsmen, hatched 57, well first week a few weeklings died so now 50, I had them inside utility building in brooder temps had dropped, so moved them to outside inclosed heated stand up brooder, well they were 8 weeks or 10 weeks nice and feathered, I opened the door put the little ladder for them to come out, and my right hand they came out flying and every one of them hit the woods, and didn't come back, Roy said he thought it was because the brooder was covered and closed in and they never seen out trying to keep them warm with the dropped temps, I don't know that was the first time in 20 yrs of having and raising Guinea fowl this has happened so I fed those jokers all that feed and they hit the street lau, again my brother it has been on bad streak of luck to extreme around this farm, okay get me those photo's and "GREAT, REALLY, GREAT hearing and chatting with you, best of great luck with your new stock and new projects ahead, I hope you extrodranary luck with your outcome.   frow
