Trapped raccoon

Go to the grocery store and get a block of dry ice, it usually comes in on the days that they receive their dairy shipments.

Drop the dry ice into a trash can and then put the trap in the can and close the lid. Come back in 10 minutes...done. Nice and quiet, no pain, and no releasing a coon to bother others.

We're not going to shoot it, because of the legality. Can't discharge a firearm in the city. I just got a cryptic message from my husband saying he's found a humane way to deal with it and we'll talk when he gets home. In response to my ecstatic, "really??" he said, "as humane as that jerk's ever going to get!"

So I don't know what the deal is going to be. I guess I'll find out soon enough.
Definitions of humane and cruel can vary by person. This post might be offensive to some however since you live in the city you don't have the quick and easy option of a firearm. I will venture to suggest using asphyxiation by C02. This is the only method approved by the American Veterinary Medical Association.
